Why is a socialist utopia such a bad thing?
Why can't everybody live in harmony without a house, without technology or a car, without having to work or pay bills?
Instead, we could plant trees together, grow herbal medicines to stay healthy, live together in the wilderness with mother nature, share all land in common, and settle disputes by letting the children of our families be trial judges in settling family disputes. They would be honest judges.
Why can't we live like this instead of owning houses and driving cars and working our butts off and paying bills?
The most important work you can possibly do is to learn to love one another and live as brothers and sisters.
All other work never makes you happy because the benefits of that work are not going to bring you love and friendship, just meterial possessions. Therefore, why work?
Yanqui Rojo en el Sur, we are on opposite sides of the spectrum. You want a world full of unpredictable progress with workers controlling outcomes in collaboration.
I am for the Green side of the spectrum. That is, we put the environment first, which DOES WORK....the Pygmy Forest people of the Congo have lived this way for THOUSANDS OF YEARS!
The workers of the world has its benefits also. It would be an uncorrupted form of the Soviet Union. On a more moderate scale, you get the auto manufacturing design you have now in one of the German factories.
Modern Germany is a good example of united workers, today it is a progressive society with many outside immigrants included from Eastern European countries that have come Westwards since the fall of the Berlin Wall.
EDIT to ERIN:
Erin, you raised an excellent arguments, but I think I can rebut it. Whenever you change anything, there is a GAIN and a Loss. We gained certain things with progress, at the expense of something we have forgotten we lost. What we lost was the interactions and times we would be sharing together now if we lived primitively.
We have forgotten the meaning of living when all that we use now that we think we need, we did not have. When looking at the Amish, we do not know what we are repelled to unless we lived in their society long enough to make it the norm of our own cultural living style.
Our lense is skewed by what we see as commonplace. And our view of history is biased in favor of the present, for we know nobody from our past to present the alternative view, our witnesses are of our time. So at no period in time will the people of that time as a majority, agree to move back, whether it is better or worse.

While it sounds good on paper, it never did work, doesn't work, and never will work.
Look at the spectacular collapse of the Soviet Union. Look at the state of the economy in Cuba.
Even China has moved towards more of a free market economy, and they've made the greatest progress economically in that country's very long history.
Live without technology? Why don't you try living in a cave for just a month? Then you'll see the advantages of technology, even if you don't become ill.
You're using technology at this time, with a computer.
You want to live without it? Go ahead and try.

The closest that I can think of to most of what you're looking for may already exist in a cemetery! I think another form of what you've described can be found in an Amish Community,I don't know about the children being judges but the Amish seem to be already living pretty much the way you've described, except they live in houses they built themselves.
I think this lifestyle is an honorable choice if it's what's right for you but unlike you, they aren't hippies.I would rather live a life seeking scientific and technological advances which sustain and uplift an ever increasing population personally as it is,in my understanding, our God given instruction,to know the workings of the universe and to not withdraw our hand from this process and also to subdue the earth and increase the population of people upon it,also to labor all the days of our lives on behalf of those who cannot as standing in the gap for them to the betterment of their lives is also God's law. Yes,there are inventions without any other purpose than to be a distraction and hindrance in the development and growth of the mind but there are good benefits to automobiles and many other material things which are for the purpose of giving you a longer life span so that you can seek and pass down more knowledge directed for the purpose of creating an increasing and better sustained population than the yours and the one before you.Without many discoveries in medicines and living standards mankind was restricted to far more diseases and a very low life expectancy and I cannot understand how anyone would wish to return to a veritable cave man lifestyle other than for the sake of pure madness and lunacy. We have been given knowledge to avoid the results of living a life in the fashion you hope for because most of us aren't hoping to shorten our lives by taking 10 paces backwards.Good luck with that,it's all that you're going to have.
EDIT: UMM,WHAT? I THINK I KNOW WHAT YOUR PROBLEM IS,THE LSD IS A VERY BAD LENSE TO SEE ANYHING THROUGH. I ADVISE YOU TO GO COLD TURKEY,THEN TRY REASONING.YOU MAKE ABOUT AS MUCH SENSE AS OBAMA.

Because some scumbag always has to take over the country and ruin it for everybody. Stalin killed millions in a so called "socialist utopia". Unfortunately, capitalism puts the average person at the mercy of the scumbags who run the banks and big corporations. These people encourage massive debt and cause extreme environmental damage. So either way, the average person is screwed.
The most brutal and greedy people will always be in power, no matter what kind of government you can come up with.

It is the nature for a large group of people to horde, distrust, oppress, hate, dominate, control, and hurt others that they view as weak, lazy or otherwise useless. The world you speak of would be utterly destroyed by the individuals I speak of within a matter of months after it's inception.
To be loving and accepting is not the norm for humanity it is the exception. The norm is cruelty and aggression. That is how the human race has achieved it's dominate position on the planet.
This is evidenced by the fact anywhere humans go several other species within that ecosystem become extinct.

Ahhh,
I like my house, a lot, and my garden, and my livestock and my pets and my family and my friends. However, I got to choose all of that-- 'cept for family.
What do folks who don't like living as part of a group supposed to do? I mean, not everyone is 'social' or 'tribal'. Many of us are individuals.
And I've visited a commune. It was basically a few folks working their butts off to keep all the infrastructure working (usually country kids who grew up knowing how to fix tractors etc) And the rest a bunch of city kids goofing on on a permanent vacation.

Personally, speaking as a REAL socialist, I think your "utopia" would be a nightmare.
Technology liberates. Revolutionary technology promotes revolutions.
"Back to nature" is a reactionary pipe dream. Me, I like Gore-tex, indoor plumbing, heart surgery and shoes.
And what about the literally BILLIONS who would starve if we went back to old-style agriculture?

I don't know what kind of drugs you're using but you need to take your head out of your butt and quite wondering why it's dark out. If you wish to live as a socialist go to prison, because like socialism you don't have to think for yourself or be responsible all you need to do is follow the rules.

You go ahead and move into the wilderness to start planting trees. We will follow along and join you later, HA!

When you Rationalize you are always making the wrong choice.Even communes have rules. And just in case you are serious there is an old abandoned bus in Alaska waiting for you.
