Has anyone else noticed that the "new" youth organization are militarized?

I am a social worker, voted for OBama and I guess my lifestyle is sort of liberal but the new youth organizations that are popping up around the country seem to be a little too military for me. They sort of smack of Hitler Youth (which was started with the same kind of intentions). Why do they (City Year is one) have uniforms and in the recruiting commercials the kids are standing there at attention in a military formation, and then parade rest and then they march. What kind of social service is that? So many of them are like that, why are they depicted as youth military organizations going into the community to serve. Honestly, that is exactly what the Hitler Youth were started as and what they did until later. I don't like military marching, uniforms and anything like that for kids. Is this more ACORN stuff? I don't want military youth working poor neighborhoods? Why can't they be more like VISTA, whats with this marching and uniforms?

Update:

Doctari, I never mentioned Obama in this. Also I think that your answer pretty much proves the question's value. This is not a football team, this is "social intervention" in a militarized youthful setting. And as for Boy Scouts, I do not know if they are left wing or right wing but I can see your point which is one that they too indoctrinate kids, but I never marched ever in the Scouts or sat around talking about changing America. We just sort of went camping. Truly though your answer does seem to try to justify it rather than deny it or explain it. You clearly assume that this is a left leaning organization and that is pretty much the quuestion. Its "City Year" not City One

oh great question ---you'lll hear the libs try to defend this Americorp crap by saying "they are only helping the community" but i have looked at their website and i have to say its leftist indoctrination with a military twist at the very least, i don't "know" anyone involved with them personally so that's as far as ill go

just look at their website! My God its far more then volunteerism Peace Corp style

and if your really a social worker and you have seen them up close i would like to here more on these fools cause they seem to kept alot of secrets.

Are the boy-scouts militarized? They march around and wear uniforms? How about the girl scouts? Brownies? As far as that goes how about football teams. They line up, do exercises and all wear the exact same uniform.

Being given a uniform and a little structure is not a bad thing. Comparing it to Hitler youth right off the bat pretty much punctures your whole "I'm a liberal" and exposes this for what it is.

A thinly veiled attack on Obama using half truths and overstated "facts".

The fact of the matter is this: Kids have been going to military schools forever for discipline problems and generally come out in a much better position then when they go in. The same could be said for these organizations.

They are generally from poor inner-city communities where (and this is a generalization) positive role-models are lacking and discipline is lack. Giving these kids a positive goal (community service) and giving them some structure and a uniform may just save some of them from a life of crime.

Try opening your mind to what is happening instead of trying to push it all into the funnel that Rush and Hannity is providing.

    Addendum:

Your first line is I voted for Obama. How is that not mentioning him?

I would go to Wiki and look at the Hitler Youth for a bit. Then, when you've educated yourself a bit more, re-compare the two.

The Hitler Youth was designed to funnel kids into the SS when they got old enough. There wasn't any hiding what the purpose was. They recruited only "pure Aryan kids" and trained them in real military drills. marching and posturing in City One? Oh no!

City One (first I've heard of it) appears to be civic minded and socially oriented.

I misplaced a degree 7 account a couple of months in the past. I had no caution and it have been greater than 3 weeks considering I even had a contravention. There was once no clarification as to why and I have not the slightest suggestion what induced it. The truth that there have been no violations round it tells me it got here from the Yahoo employees. There was once not anything to deliver them a sample. I simply laughed and moved to a backup account.

Obama is getting ready to take power, dictators do that. He wants to be a mugabe junior. Better get your guns and ammo now cause the fight is coming and it will be bloody.
