I am a retired lawyer.
People take the bar exam after they graduate from law school.
However, law school does not specifically prepare students for the bar exam and many graduates take a "bar review course" right after law school to prepare them for the bar exam.
In some states students at law schools which are accredited by the state, but not by the American Bar Association, need to take the "baby bar" at the end of their first year of law school and pass that exam before they can start the second year.
