How can I install those files again that I had to delete from WIN XP?
I recently upgraded from WIN 98 to WIN XP. I installed Norton Antivirus and updated virus definitions. But after a few days my PC got infected with W32.JEEFO virus. But Norton could not disinfect it. Then I tried a small utility called Resolve from www.sophos.com. It disinfected almost all the files leaving 5-6 files which had to be deleted. Two of these files are as follows :
C:\Windows\svchost.exe
C:\Recycled\nprotect\00001899.exe
Now in Windows 98 there is a utility called System File Checker through which we can retrieve deleted files. Is there a way in WIN XP also to retrieve deleted files ? I could only find System Restore but that will not help.
These files were not deleted accidentally. I had to delete them because they were infected. They were all EXE files, may be system files. I want to retrieve those missing files for Windows from system or from Windows CD. But I couldnot find a utility in WIN XP to do that.

This file svchost.exe, should be C:\Windows\system32\ . If it was just in C:\Windows, it should not be there and was probably placed there by the virus.
I believe the 00001899.exe file, was part of the infection and not part of Windows. You don't need it.
If your PC is running ok, I would not worry.
To answer your main question, yes XP has a System file checker.
Open Windows help, and in the search box type "system file checker". Click the green arrow and you should get some how to info.
Sometimes you can run into problems, view these pages for help:

Also download, install, update, and run:
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (Free, don't register it)
From http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe
or here http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malwar...
Use this for future infections that the anti-virus cannot remove.

No, installing windows will not damage your files, because it just Modify system files, but in case of misuse, I recommend backup first. Hope this can help you! Good luck! ;-)

go to another computer with win xp installed (same version like you)
Then, use thumb drive to copy the files:
- go to C:\Windows to copy svchost.exe
- go to C:\Recycled\nprotect to copy 00001899.exe
put thumb drive to your own pc and paste it to their original location:
- C:\Windows for svchost.exe
- C:\Recycled\nprotect for 00001899.exe
