no, you need to download a dvd converter. i personally use WinX DVD Ripper Platinum, less than 7MB, fast and safe to install.
import your dvd, choose "to mp4" so that the video can to put into iTunes, or choose "to iPod", "to iPhone" directly.

You need a DVD to iPod Converter software.
I use Cucusoft DVD to iPod Converter.
Step 1: Convert DVD to MP4 or H.264 supported by iPod.
Step 2: Import the converted movie to iTunes.
Step 3: Connect your iPod to your computer, sync the movie to your iPod.
Hope it helps!

Apple iPod accepts MPEG-4 format, so you just need a converter that will go from DVD to MP4 and video to MP4 if you want to watch DVD movies and video files on your iPod. After you get the output iPod compatible video format, you can drag the iPod MPEG-4 video files to your iPod with the sync of iTunes.
I always use Cucusoft DVD + Video to iPod Converter Suite. It works great for me. You can learn more about it from

Thanks for the question. From your question, it seems that you want to import the DVD to iTunes so that you can watch it later. In other words, you want to copy the DVD to iTunes so that you can watch it whenever you want without the DVD. Yes?
iTunes supports MP4 and MOV video, you just need to convert your DVD to iTunes compatible video, then you can add it into your iTunes library. Cucusoft DVD to iTunes Converter is the easiest-to-use and fastest DVD to iTunes converter software for Apple iPhone, iPod touch/classic/video/nano, Apple TV on the market. Download it from:

I'm afraid you can't do that. iTunes supports only mp4 video, but DVD is VOB video, and DVD has CSS protection. You need a DVD converter to convert DVD to iTunes compatible at first. If you need details, here is a step by step guide will teach you how to do that

As ipod accepts mp4 format, you just need a converter that will go from dvd to ipod mp4 and then transfer the output mp4 videos to your ipod with the sync of itunes library. I prefer using Clone2Go DVD to iPod Converter as it combines three main features into one program:
1. rip dvd to ipod
2. convert video to ipod
3. download youtube videos to ipod
here is the step by step tutorial that shows you how to rip dvd, convert video and download youtube video to ipod:

DVD purchased or rented from stores have copyright protections. To put dvd to ipod, you need to use dvd ripper to bypass the copyright protection and convert dvd to ipod mp4 format. I recommend that you use aimersoft to rip the DVD's, it can bypass all kind of dvd copyright protection schemes and save the DVD to computer in iPod video formats.
Most of all, it will not break the video into pieces, it will join all DVD titles and chapters and make them as one single file.
