iPod and itunes only accept mp4 video format so you have to convert your DVD to mp4 format.

DVD purchased or rented from stores have copyright protections. To put dvd to ipod, you need to use dvd ripper to bypass the copyright protection and convert dvd to ipod mp4 format.
