Rear defroster problems?

The rear defroster on my 94 ford probe doesn't work. When i press the button a click is emitted from the rear of the car and the light turns on on the button but it doesn't defrost the window. it must not be the fuse then. I know that the rear hatch was replaced at one time on the car so maybe it isn't wired correctly? but why would it sound like it turns on? Also if i cannot fix it what kind of alternatives do i have that i can buy to defrost my rear window?

Check to make sure the wires are attached to the tabs soldered to the rear window. Also check to make sure the tabs are still in place. They break off easily. If the tabs are off, go to the autoparts store and buy a tab repair kit ($15). Use a voltmeter and touch one probe to the defroster grid and the other probe to a ground point. You should see voltage with the system on. If not, try testing for voltage at the power tab. If you're not getting voltage at either tab, Then check at the dash module.

check to see if wire is plugged up at the back rear hatch. It could be that the connection is not good at the plug located at the rear hatch
