If you don't want health insurance, you could be fined if Obamacare passes. What do you think?

Ensign receives handwritten confirmation

This doesn't happen often enough.

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it "Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold."

What do you think about this? So will say that it will be changed in later rewrites of the bill, but I say it shouldn't have been in the bill from the start. Kind of shows you their vision of "change"

It's all a moot point. The IRS made a determination, such a fine WOULD be a form of TAX. Besides breaking promise number 201 ( Obama about NEVER any Taxes ), there is a serious question about the Constitutionality, one I'm sure the opponents have not overlooked.

Here's what you need to know about this part of the health care bill:

    1) The fine for not having coverage is based on the statistic that 17-29 year old have the highest rate of op- out of insurance. The belief is that this age group will still op out and those fines can be used to insure the poor!

    2) They also want to fine those who have insurance that they decide is to good! Ones with no co-pay and/ or no ceiling of coverage.

    3) non of the bills do anything from stopping the flood of illegal border crossers going into an emergency room for everything! This means the cost of health care will only continue to rise!

    4) So, if you have good insurance or op out because you don't want you will be fined. Illegals will still use our health care for free, and cost will never slow down. The only thing they have down is create health care for the welfare and this they already have!

If you attend college you are required to purchase insurance, if you drive an automobile you are required to purchase insurance, this is not unprecidented. If an uninsured individual gets sick and is unable to pay, it is a drain on the system. Also, the fee is not universal, there are exemptions for individuals making around $16000 or less. There is a system similar to this already in effect in Massachusetts. Not sure what this has to do with the Dems vision of change, it is a debate about an amendment in Committee, and it has bipartisan support.

Considering they'll have NO LEGAL authority to impose a fine of even 5 cents it's laughable.

On the bright side if these IDIOTS make it "mandatory" I will be writing 100% of my Health Insurance costs off my income taxes.

  • Did I hear some where from the liberals " my body my choice " Granted it was meant as a slogan for another problem issue, but the basic idea still applies. BO wants this so called health care thing in place for a vast variety of political reasons and believe me the welfare of people are low on his list...

    Sounds like irresponsibility, to me.

    On YOUR part.

You must have insurance to drive a car, you must have a license to hunt, to fish, to operate a day care or own a business.

You are required to wear a seatbelt, wear a helmet if you drive or ride on a motorcycle.

    Why?

Because cleaning up after your accident is costly and messy, and society thinks you should pay for that.

    Likewise your health care.

Your being admitted to a hospital ER, implies you agree to pay for it.

An agreement beforehand, with health insurance, guarantees that.

Failing to do so should be charged to you. Along with your car insurance rate going up, along with the ambulance fees, along with the police reports, because it was YOUR accident. Not the hospitals, not the taxpayers, and certainly not MINE!

    That's what I think.

Besides everything else it takes your freedom of choice away. Do you want to give up another right another freedom? They keep chipping those freedoms away.

It's already been dropped from $3800 to $1900. I'm perfectly willing to forgo the fine if the person signs a paper refusing all medical treatment he cannot pay for up front. Otherwise, I'd like him to get his hand out of my pocket. If I provide insurance and he refuses to take it, let it be on his head.

Good idea. It'll get income from all those folks who have been using emergency rooms as their personal doctors' offices.
