For an interview at Kohls?

I was called this morning to set up an interview at Kohls. Its for a temporary holiday position. I filled out the application before I had a job and now I have another job so I told them that I have completely open availability. Now I have another job working 2nd shift but I do want to take this job being as it only temporary. How should I tell them this at my interview? Also, what can I expect at my interview? What kind of questions do they ask? How does an interview for a seasonal worker differ from a regular employee? All answers are greatly appreciated. :)

To answer your question about bringing up availability, you don't need to worry. Your availability will be brought up for confirmation in the interview. Professionally explain that since filling out the application, you have acquired another job, but are still very interested in the position and willing to work when available. It would help a lot to have an idea of your new availability. It is also important to know what days your current employer needs you the most, and what days Kohl's may want you to work the most (be sure to ask this... if nowhere else, they will usually ask you "Do you have any questions for me?" and ask then). Since it's temporary (and likely part-time, correct?), there is a lot of flexibility to be had there, but also realize that they may not be willing to comply with your schedule.

To avoid that unfortunate situation, make it clear that you are willing to work this second job.

As for the other questions, interviews differ from place to place, but some things always stay the same. There are a lot of common questions you will be asked, from history-related (past job experiences) to what you know about the company... to scenarios about tough situations, etcetera. There are a lot of helpful websites on these common questions. As you already have a job, I'm sure you know what I mean, but I highly suggest About.com for reference, as they have always been a huge help to me.

Temporary interviews differ because they are only really considering you for the season. They aren't looking for something long-term, so they're not going to care if you're starting college in the spring or whatever binds there may be past the holiday season. But otherwise they are looking for the same in you as they do in every employee, so the interviews are much the same.

Sorry for typing so much. Best of luck with your interview! I'm sure you'll do well.

  • I used to work at Kohls part time. The questions they asked me were pretty similar to any other job interview (what would you do in this situation, etc.) They did ask me to tell them about the best vacation spot I'd been to and to sell it to them, or make them want to go there. In my group interview they asked questions like "How do you feel about store credit? Describe a time when you had a confrontation with one of your coworkers. How do you feel about the 'customer is always right' policy?" I think the best policy is just honesty. When it comes to your schedule, they do like to know up front what it will be, so tell them you've got another job and what shifts you'll be working, but let them know when you will be open to work. Say something like, "I do have another job working in the evening after 5 pm (or whatever it is) on weeknights, but I'm completely open before then every day and on weekends (or whatever you want)." As for the difference between interviews for a seasonal employee, I don't know since I wasn't seasonal, but I don't think it'll be that different. Good luck! And if you do get the job make sure you approach EVERY customer and ask them if they've got the Kohls charge card. They're sticklers about getting store credit.

My buddy labored at kohls, the tie won't be mandatory, me in my opinion it being kohls, you in no way see an worker wearing dark colorations, try getting clothing FROM kohls for the interview, that often looks solid placed on khaki pants and a mild colored shirt and constantly convey your resume, because of the fact what in the event that they ask for it and additionally you do not have it? you need to do effective, its an incredible place to paintings, solid luck!
