The only definitive version is the original (Greek, Arabic, and Aramaic)
The different versions provide different prospectives, and different translations as more discoveries have been made. There are versions that are easier to read or more traditional. I read the Holman Christian Standard, but it is because I like how it is worded, not because it is any more correct than another translation.
The only ones I don't like are total paraphrases like The Message. And by the way, for the KJV is the only correct types, it is now proven to have translation errors, we've made discoveries since 1611, and it ISN'T the original English translation either, do some research.

I follow the BHS which is the exact Hebrew words of the Tanahh. In the Gospels I'm iffy I'm trying to get a hold of the Hebrew version original. It's the best because, it's actual meaning.

The old greek and hebrew scriptures. Do you know how long it takes a person to learn those languages just to read the first full bible? Not really first. The first was just a bunch of scrolls and tablets, but I mean when they put it all together in a condensed volume in it's "original" language. It says things very differently in those. Actually makes sense, too.

one should always read for them selves and use what the lord teaches. i personally believe in using the king james version although there are many others that have been put in newer language, some twist the language to suit their belief. the kjv is older and used the same as greek and hebrew only in english. i like it and find it good. although,

King James 1611. The first original copy we could read, closest to the original scrolls. Don't let anyone fool you. There's none like it, the Living Word.

New Century Version, the same meaning of the text, just words that are from our time (not slang though, lol.) that are more understandable and I get God;s message more clearly.

Versions are for better understanding. If we tried to read it in its original form that was written in three different languages we would not be able to understand any of it. Even if we tried to read the original King James and the writting s of the septuagint we would not understand it.

I like the King James version but mostly because it sounds so poetic to me.
