Magnolia 'Little Gem'?
I planted a Magnolia Little Gem about a year ago and it has not grown or flowered at all.
It is in a sunny spot, gets watered regularly, and has plenty of tambark (mulch) around it. The soil where i planted it is fairly hard and i don't think it drains too well although i do use slow release fertilizer on the soil.
The leaves of the Little Gem burnt badly last summer although they have since recovered and it hasn't grown ANY new ones or flowered once.
What can i do to help it along. I did notice that it'd established good roots into the ground.
Any tips would be great as i'd like to try and save it instead of getting something else to replace it :) Thanks

magnolias are funny, they do great and need little to no intervention in the right area.. they are hoards of work in the wrong area. One thing i could tell you is to make a deep and superwide well around it and then put large rocks around the edge to help it retain even more of the moisture... they are pretty much tropic in nature. sometimes a little fertizer will help too. normally i would say not to fertilize this time of year, but this is a dinosaur age tree and needs are constant.
if your starting it young... good luck. i had to pull mine out of the ground this year, i am a hobbiest of trees and wanting to put mine in a high altitude in the desert... it really tried to make it, but it wanted more water than i could stand there all day and give it.

Little Gem is slow growing.... don't expect much in the first few years.... no more fertilizer, please... newly planted trees don't need any and the addition can cause troubles.....
