Can i file for divorce in West Virginia, move to Louisiana, then file for divorce in Louisiana?

My sister in Law filed for divorce in West Virginia, her soon-to-be ex., filed in Florida, they both still live in West Virginia, she wants to move home to Louisiana. Can she change from filing in West Virginia to filing in Louisiana?

Nope! She filed, why continue to confuse the issue just finish what she started in W.Va. It's already going to be a mess with him filing in Fla. Since they both live in W.Va. she has the upper hand because she filed there. Tell her unless another monster hurricane hits La. just wait this out in W.Va. and git er done!

I also live in Georgia. If I am not mistaken you will have to file in Louisiana. If you had resided together in GA for six months then you could have filed in GA because you would be considered a resident of GA. You can always call the Clerk of Court in your local courthouse to make sure this information is correct.

I am living in Alabama and me and my soon to be ex still lives in Louisiana. Because we were married in Louisiana I have to go back to Louisiana to file for my divorce. I tried to file in Alabama but the lawyer told me that because I already started the process in Lousiana I would have to go back to La. to finish my divorce. Hopefully I will be finished with my divorce by Febuary of next year or when I have the money.

Huh? If she's already filed, then why file again?

I got divorced in West Virginia, and they said that I had to file in

    A. The County we were married in or

    B. The County we resided in as a married couple or

    C. The County that the person being filed against currently resided.

If we got married in Logan County but resided in Raleigh County and my soon-to-be ex-husband resided in Raleigh County, then I had to file in Raleigh County, even though we were married in Logan County, because 2 out of 3 were Raleigh County.

We got married in Logan County, we resided as a couple in Raleigh County, but I resided in Logan County, so if he filed, he had to file in Logan County because 2 out of 3 were Logan County.

I hope I didn't confuse you. If they were married in West Virginia and resided as a married couple in West Virginia, then they are most likely going to have to file for divorce in West Virginia, and in the County that they resided in, were married in, or the county where the person being filed against currently lives.
