Who else hates the Preseason Polls!!?

I think they should have no polls until say after week 4 in College Football. Of course this would never happen because of the PR that comes with these polls. But it skews the real rankings.

Update:

It does matter because many of the computer polls that the BCS uses take into account wins over ranked teams . Thus you beat someone that was ranked at week 1 and you get extra points

Update 2:

Danial: I think losing late is more important then losing early. Teams early in the year may not really be playing up to their potential , not enough practice ,game time etc.

Preseason polls, or really any polls shouldn't be given much consideration until about 4 or 5 weeks have been played. Of which, too much is made of just 1 game.

In the first week of the season, Oregon, which was ranked #14 at the time, goes on the road to play #16 Boise St. and loses. They fall out of the top 25 because of that loss, but during the next 3 weeks, they play and beat #18 Utah (at the time) and then #6 Cal at home and blow them out and improve to 3-1, and are now ranked back inside the top 25.

Same can be said of Iowa, who started the season ranked #21, and in the first week have to block 2 FG's to beat Division II Northern Iowa, and because of that, they fall out of the top 25. During the next couple of weeks, they beat 2 schools from BCS conferences (Iowa St., Arizona) and then go on the road and beat #5 Penn St., and only now get back into the top 25.

You can't tell me that only now, Oregon and Iowa are proving themselves to be a top 25 team. Again, the polls are given way too much consideration, and even after 4 weeks of the season have past, I don't think anyone can give a legitimate answer as to who the best 5 teams actually are. Most of the teams currently ranked in the top 25 have yet to play anyone.

The polls are pointless until at least week 4 or 5, and even then they are skewed. A lot of teams play cream puff non conf teams to build up their record, but conference play is a more realistic gauge. How can you say before a game has been played that these are the best 10 teams in the country? How a team looks on paper means nothing. 7 of the preseason AP top 10 have a loss already. It's a joke. At least the BS has the right idea about something. No rankings until October.

Polls suck! If a team (like USC) loses to a FCS team in week 1, they have 12 weeks to get back into BCS competition. If they lose to that FCS team in week 13 instead of week 1, then they fall to like, 20th. So they have the same records, same teams that they lost to, but different rankings. They might even have the same score of the game they lost. Except the week 1 team makes the BCS, while the week 13 team makes something like the Alamo Bowl.
