MRSA colonisation - treatment?

A person about to undergo elective surgery has been told by hospital that nose and throat swabs show colonisation with MRSA.

Hospital prescribes washes for skin hair and nasal passages.

GP wants to prescribe antibiotic in addition - is rifampicin appropriate?

Update:

(colonisation not infection has been prescribed)
