Do airports check checked luggage?

Basically what the titles ask. I'm wondering if airports check checked luggage at all, and if so, how do they examine to contents?

Most (if not all) airports will x-ray all luggage. Many bags are selected for a manual inspection. If your luggage is selected for manual inspection, they open the bag and inspect it by hand. They will then repack it, and put a TSA tag on it notifying you that it's been inspected by hand. In some airports, I've seen them do the inspection in front of the passengers, but I've had mine come out in the baggage claim with the TSA tag on it.

Never put anything valuable in there like jewelry, cameras, or stuff like that.

    Yes. They do.

When I went on my honeymoon I had some.... toys... in the baggage I checked. Apparently when they sent it through x-ray they saw what looked like a "bomb." They went through my luggage, broke every toy my husband and I had, and left a little note in it saying they had been in my luggage and then there was a handwritten part that said they " were sorry they ruined our fun." Seriously.

I was pissed. That stuff is expensive.

Yes they do. They scan every piece and then any that look suspicious, they open and hand check. That is why they instruct you not to put locks on them as they will cut the lock if needed. Also, never put valuables in your checked luggage.

They do check luggage through sampling. If they check a bag (that's why they want them to be unlocked), they leave an official note, telling you your bag was checked. If you are contemplating carrying something illegal, I highly advise against it.

All airline lluggage is examined by x-ray for suspicious objects, sniffer dogs for drugs and explosives, and subjected to random inspection by Customs as appropriate.

Yes, they do. They x-ray them and often open and check them.

I have had my checked bag checked almost every time I have flown in the last year.

They usually leave a notice that the bag has been checked inside your bag.

Everything and every single person goes through security check points with scanners. When you go through security, you are required to take your shoes off, take your overcoat off, leave everything behind at the scanner and go through another scanner yourself. Your checked bags go through another scanner monitored by the TSA.

Yes. They run them through the X-Ray thing....and they do "random selection" to pick bags to shuffle through.....they go through every single content in there. They even leave a little flier in your bag stating that it had been "randomly selected" to be searched.

I know, it happened to one of my bags in 07.

Yes they do. Some are random searches and they also x-ray them. If they see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary they will hand search it. So don't take anything you don't want found. GOOD LUCK!!
