What is the proper procedure when using filler rod during oxyacetylene welding?

I'm in an aircraft welding class and I wanted to know the exact methods you employ (holding the torch, torch movement, placing the rod properly, torch heat, anything else in any situation) when you weld.

Experienced oxyacetylene welders please.

Thanks!

The basics: After selecting the correct diameter torch tip and filler rod diameter for the size of the metal being joined, you start by heating the joint and as it begins to melt, you simultaneously melt the joint metal and the filler rod in a small puddle, moving the torch in small circles while advancing the puddle and the rod along the joint.

Shouldn't they be teaching you this stuff in the class? I thought that would be the main objective. Go to a shop that welds aluminum and see if you can pick up some pointers from a few "old guys".

Welding on aircraft, huh? There is pretty much no welding on USAF military aircraft, with the exception of engine tail pipes and heat shields, which are steel alloys.
