Just bought a 92 Dodge 350 Ram Van and I have having trouble figuring out what it exactly is!?

Ok, bought a 92 Dodge Ram Van, is is super long, so what I am wondering is, does that make it a Ram Van wagon? How do I tell if my van is heavy duty (HD)? It says that is has a heavy duty transmission. I am just trying to get the right tires on it. One website tells me that it takes 225/75 R16, and that is the size it has on it. Another place tells me to get 235/85 R16. If you have any insight in this let me know!

Update:

It has a 360 5.9L engine if that helps at all.

Update 2:

And I also need to know is, will I be able to use the same rims even if I get 235/85 R16. I have 8 lug tires.

yes you can use your rims for either size, and either size will work, just a tip if you plan on hauling a lot of weight, you may want to look at a D range or E range tire. D range is 6 ply and E is 10 ply. The reason for this is the load rating on the tire. D and E both can handle more weight than a standard range tire and will last longer. But they are a bit more pricey but well worth the money. I actually recommend the Cooper Discoverer ATR E range. I have them on my RAM 2500 4X4 and just love them.

I would go with badbill 1 because when the pickups and vans came off the assembly line they used a standard tire and that was used on the B pillar as reference only. But the van could have changed packages after leaving the assembly line and the tires size along with it. the way in which we found the tire size at the dealership was to see what the spare size was because it always matched all the others on the ground or run the vin at the dealership. Also remember if you go to a bigger size than what it was equipped with you will loose gas mileage and some power plus the speedometer will have to be re-programed in the anti-lock brake module so the speedometer will show accurate. What the van came out with will be your best option

PS 150 is 1/2 ton, 250 is 3/4 ton and 350 is 1 ton. You have a 1 ton van. This is the same for Dodge, General Motors, and Ford.

What you have is a Dodge Maxi-van, extra 2 feet added at back. Most came with LT235/85R16. The 225 was a low profile tire that supposedly made it easier to get in the van. The decal on the door post will tell what came on it. If it came with the 225s and you want the taller tire, your speedometer will have to be recalibrated.

this is a heavy duty van and make sure you use 8 to 10 ply tires to have proper handling distribution and to cary the weight of the van.

Open the driver side door and look on the sticker in the door jam. Or on the door itself. The sticker tells you the date of manufacture, What size tires it's supposed to have , and what air pressure the manufacture recommends you put in the tires... Even the spare!

You should really check the load range rating on the sidewall of the tire itself. that van requires a load range of at least D maybe an E as too much weight will blow apart the tires forcing a cosly repair and possibly an accident, the door jamb will tell you also

drivers door sticker tells a tire store knows and either one of them size just right

id go with the 235 its about a inch taller better handling better mileage

Take the ID# into the dealership & they can give you a print out of what the van was built with.
