Do you think my wife is really pregnant, she has an HCG level of 46?

My wife was on fertility meds and took a shot to make her Ovulate on or about Sunday, September 13th. She went to the hospital today for some test unrelated to anything to do with possible pregnancy, she was involved in a bad accident two weeks ago but per hospital policy they performed a "serum HCG" which came back with a Positive result and a level of 46.

Do you think she is really pregnant? They said that HCG level is really low at the hospital today. She follows-up with her fertility Doc on Thursday to see if her levels have doubled.

We have been trying for two years and I guess we are looking for a glimmer of hope. Could it be her levels are low because of late implantation? Today should have been when she started her cycle, but she is never regular so we haven't put too much thought into that fact.

Any help or insight is appreciated.

it depends whether the shot had any HCG in it as some do if not then that is an early pregnacy

the levels should double in the next 48 hours

Yes, it is possible, however, many of the fertility medications do contain HCG and will cause a "low level positive" without an actual pregnancy. A level of 46 two weeks after ovulation is a little low, however, conception can happen up to five days after ovulation, so it is possible that implantation happened as late as Sept 20, so... maybe? Keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Anything over 5 is considered positive for pregnancy. But fertility shots will also show HCG levels in blood and urine. The only way to be sure is to have an ultrasound. Also have the HCG level repeated again. If it is doubling then yes, she is pregnant. Only a placenta will make HCG levels double every 48-72 hours.

When the baby implants that's when the body starts producing hCG. It usually starts ~ 7 and doubles every 2 to 3 days. That would put it at 6-9 days ago. Implantation usually occurs between 3- 10 days after ovulation and fertilization. Therefore fertilized on sept 13 and implanted between 19th and 22nd all within normal ranges. Congrats.

  • 46 is positive. When I had my first blood draw when I had a positive test it was 28. And that was positive. It doubled every 2 days, so I hope that your wife's does the same :) my hubby and I did the whole fertility med and ovidrel thing so it should definitely be out of her system by now. Best wishes! It sounds like you guys are finally pregnant

  • Im not sure about levels, but it sounds like pregnancy. It took me to be 5 days late and almost 4 weeks past conception to get a positive! I wish you the best of luck!!

Yes. If her levels are over 5,that is positive for pregnancy. Sounds like she's just early on in her pregnancy.

yes anything over 1 is considered pregnant and most home pregnance test will confirm at 15-25. and you usually test with an hpt when you would have missed your period so if she is pregnant i would say she is right on track if the level continuse to rise then she is definatly prego yay!!!!! baby dust
