Should a company send flowers to a funeral for the death of an employee's immediate family member?
Company has 300-400 employees. Over the years, many employees have had deaths in the family; parents, siblings, grandparents, children and spouses... the company does not send cards or flowers. Sometimes the other employees will put money together to buy an arrangement or send a card... it seems as if other companies do this to show respect to the valued employees and their families. Do you think this is true or are we out of line to think this ought to be done? We have an employee in our department who's mother passed away and the wake/funeral are tomorrow and the next day... there has been some argument about what should be done.

my department sends cards, flowers etc. to family members, even though I guess the company really doesn't..We all put in a little money, it seems like all the time, jeez. I think it would be a nice gesture but you know the company big wigs have to have their bonuses and trips and all those flowers would get in the way of that
