Should I get tested for factor V Leiden?

My sister recently tested positive for factor V Leiden. If you don't know what this is, please don't post an answer.

Is there sufficient benefit to getting tested to outweigh the possible negatives of having a positive test in my records, especially factoring in that the government may very well be involved in health care soon?

Me? I would get tested. The benefit would be that I would be forwarned of the factor. My physician could also make better (or different) decisions regarding side effects of medication he may prescribe. I would rather have good health care. What is going on in the health care system would not change my health decisions.

I would also be greatful to have genetic information that other generations did not have.

But, that's me. Good luck to your sister and to you.
