  • Should I have my antique clock serviced?

I recently took possession of an antique seth-thomas mantel clock that was originally a wedding present from my great-great grandparents to my great grandparents. It seems to be running perfectly - keeps good time and the chimes work well. Every site I've read mentions that clocks of this sort need to be cleaned every several years and lubricated every few years. I'm thinking about taking it in to a specialist to have these things done, but I'm hesitant to do so. As far as I know, it has never been cleaned or lubricated. Maybe in it's very early life it was, but my mother grew up in the house where it was running for more than 60 years and it was never serviced. Just wound every week.

I want to preserve this family heirloom, but am worried it's a case of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

  • Thank you letters for multiple interviewers?

I had a 3 hour series of interviews at a University yesterday (July 3). In total I was interviewed by 10 people.

    1. 20 minute introductory discussion with the department director (decision maker/prospective boss)

    2. Hour long session with 5 members of the department staff

    3. Half-hour session with 3 faculty/staff members from other areas of the college

    4. Half-hour with an associate dean (decision maker's boss)

    5. 20 minutes more with the department director

I'm a bit conflicted on who all to send thank-you e-mails to. Just the director? Him and the associate dean? The staff member who I believe organized/scheduled the interviews? Everyone?

I plan to send by e-mail (director asked me to send him my mileage as well so they can reimburse). The holiday has given me a little leeway, but I want to get them out no later than the 5th.

    Professional opinions needed!!

  • Anything special about 1992 D & 1983 D pennies?

As part of dispersing my Grandmother's estate, I have been charged with dealing with her coin & bill "collection". Aside from a couple of uncirculated Carson City silver dollars I haven't found anything with much collector value.

In the safe were a couple of bags of sorted pennies - one of 1992 D's and one of 1983 D's. The 1992's appear to be uncirculated near-mint, but other than that I see nothing special about them whatsoever. Am I missing something? Is there anything special about those coins that would explain her keeping them?

  • Looking for a holster suitable for use while running?

Due to a couple recent attacks in my area, I'd like to begin carrying my Taurus TCP .380 with me when I run. Yes, I have a permit to do so. Usually when I carry that weapon I use a standard pocket holster/sleeve, but that'll bounce around way too much and just won't work for running. Any suggestions?

  • Why would my blackberry be giving alerts for no reason?

Every 6 hours (5am, 11am, 5pm, 11pm) my Blackberry Curve 8330 vibrates and sounds an alert tone. No text message, e-mail, v-mail, phone call, missed call alerts, etc. No alarm set. I have no clue what's going on. Anybody experience something similar? Is there something stupid I may have activated and not realized?

  • Having trouble playing a friend online with Madden 10?

Neither of us have any trouble playing against random people, but we can't seem to play against each other. We'll get to the initial match screen where you select teams & settings, but can't get past that. Both of us hit ready to play, and it never gets past 'connecting..' to the check-mark and on to the game. We don't have this problem when playing anyone else, just each other.

Playstation 2, both using wired connections to our routers, broadband internet connections

    Any ideas?

  • Season on the line - which Monday night RB should I start?

It all comes down to the Monday night game. The people I needed to lose are going to lose, if I win I'm in the playoffs. I'm behind by 2 points after Sunday's games. My opponent has Drew Brees, I have Wes Welker and a running back spot with the options below. Non PPR league, who do I go with:

    Pierre Thomas

    or

    Laurence Maroney

I have a Blackberry curve 8330, downloaded the Google sync program. Events entered on my google calendar on my computer show up on my phone's calendar, but not the other way around. Have tried leaving on automatic & forcing it to sync manually. Is there some setup option that I might be missing?

  • Is a guitar humidifier necessary?

How important is it to use a guitar humidifier during the dry winter months? I never thought about it before, but saw them when browsing stuff online. Is it worth the hassle?

I live in Iowa, so have the furnace (forced air) going 5 months a year.

  • Where can I buy disc 1 of Firefly?

I need to replace disc one of my Firefly DVD set. I somehow accidentally sent it to Netflix. Since it is something they carry, there is no way for them to send it back to me though they did give me a $$ credit for it.

However, I'm still out the disc and would like to replace it.

I'm considering benching Terrell Owens in favor of Devon Hester. Is this a good idea, or completely insane?

  • Should I get tested for factor V Leiden?

My sister recently tested positive for factor V Leiden. If you don't know what this is, please don't post an answer.

Is there sufficient benefit to getting tested to outweigh the possible negatives of having a positive test in my records, especially factoring in that the government may very well be involved in health care soon?
