Why isn't she interested in eating?

Monday through Friday I watch my (technically second cousin but I consider her my neice) neice from about 7am to about 3pm. When she gets here we both usually end up falling back to sleep on the couch until about 9-ish. After we get up, I changer her diaper, and change her out of her jammies. Now, since she is with me for a good chunk of the day, I feed her 2 meals, or a late breakfast and a snack. Usually I just put the food in a bowl because we are trying to get her to feed her self.( Gold fish crackers, cut up pancakes etc.).

But, for the past few days I havenoticed that she doesn't want to eat much. I heated up a left-over hamburger and cut it up for her..she ate a few bites of it..then proceeded to cough it up because I forgot that hamburgers get hard when they are re-heated. So I tossed it out. Then, I heated up some mashed potatos. She took 2 bites and that was it. Then, I made her a pancake. I cut it up and put it in her bowl. She ate a few bites, then just sorta left it there.

When my aunt comes to get her in the afternoon, I tell her how much/what she ate. Then the next day (if the baby hasn't eaten much) she tells me that Layla ate a lot more then usual that night.

Why is it that sometimes, Layla just doesn't seem interested in eating? She just turned one if it matters.

sorry so long

Update:

she is in fact teething so that might be it. but it isn't that she doesn't like the food. my husband and i are on a tight budget, and since she doesn't eat all of her food, we bought her some of her own food. she normally eats, it's just every once in a while im afraid she isnt eating enough. with certain foods i do sit with her because i have to feed them to her like applesauce or anything that requires a utensil. if i give her water instead of juice, would that help??

She may be drinking instead of eating - my kid has been doing that. She may also be distracted by stuff at your house, or not liking the food. If you think that's an issue, see if her mom can leave a breakfast she likes. Also, if she's teething, she may not want to eat much until she's really hungry. Ask her mom if she might be teething.

We feed our kid bfast at 7, a snack at 9, lunch at 12, and a snack after the nap (3-4ish). We also try not to let him have a sippy cup between 10 and noon - that made a big difference in how much he ate for lunch.

We also started sitting with our kid for the meals - it helps keep him interested. We eat with him and play 'So Big'. You ask, "How big is [child]." Then you stretch your arms up high and say, "[child] is SOOOO big." Once you do it a few times, she may start to stretch her arms up too.

    Good luck!
