Would it be a good idea to work at Cat's Meow on Bourbon St.?

You could be working into the early morning. So i can see why your parents would be iffy about it. The only thing you need to worry about is making sure when you leave early in the morning that you have someone walk you to your car. Other than that i think you will be fine. Your family probably would be ok if you worked decent hours and not till 2,3,4 in the morning. I would give it a try and if you don't like it quit. Then try something more lo-key like the columns hotel bar on st. charles avenue or the W in the w hotel.

I also am going to say that NOLA Saint's advice is good and solid. I have a cousin who was MC there years and years ago and while it worked out great for her, times have changed. There are people out there waiting to prey on bartenders and wait staff who get off of work in the wee hours of the morning. A bartender friend was mugged coming home from work a while back and from what I'm hearing from my Quarter friends, they are really concerned going home from work at night. Your family has reason to be concerned. If you take the job, find someone to walk with, don't put up a fight, hand over the money, and carry some pepper spray.

why ? are they concerned ? Are they worried for you safety ? Well that can be taken with precaution. Or is it the idea of working at a place like Cats Meow ? If so, then its def your call. If you've worked in the industry before, then you know what to expect and just go for it.
