What is the cost of changing a freehold house converted into two flats to two leasehold flats. In addition, to save money, is there any of the work that can be done myself before the solicitors start their part?

Complicated - leave it to the solicitors. You need to create two seperate legal titles, two new leases, and a management company to manage the insurance and common areas. If you get it wrong, could be very expensive and difficult to sell
