Old school Republicans... an honest question for you.?

What the heck happened to your party? I've never agreed with some of your premises... but I could at least respect the stances and opinions of some of the Republicans I used to talk to... even some that were on here. Now all I see are people who are full of contradictions and vitriol for anything or anyone not them. People holding grudges and making decisions based on who they dislike rather than what they think. The name calling, the fear tactics, the sheer negativity in general! It's disheartening! The party has been acting juvenile and showing no class or tact. This is what I see when I look at the "new" Republican party.. and that is sad because there used to be Republicans I could respect as leaders and people even if I disagreed with their politics. Is it just me? Am I just being pessimistic? I truly want to know how old school Republicans feel about their party now. And for anyone else that reads this.. feel free to chime in but I'm not looking for a finger pointing session or juvenile antics being thrown one way or the other... I want some serious thought and opinions on the subject at hand.

Thank you for your responses.

A concerned American.

Update:

And smellyfoot (and a couple of others from my contacts)... I know you are still running around... and I know you are old school mentality :) Nothing but love for ya... just wondering where the rest are and what's up with the "new" crowd.

Update 2:

CommanderGold. While I do agree that both parties have their "normal" level of loudmouths... there just seems to be a lot more than ever coming off the right for some reason... perhaps it's just me... but at the same time I didn't see it that way in the past.

    You are correct.

I believe the main stream media is at fault. They give the Republicans just enough information to scare them and/or piss them off so that the Republicans rant and rave and the Democrats get pissed off and hollywood puts in their 2 cents worth. You end up with a little civil war between Reds and Blues that was all spawned by the media.

The fact that you think that all Republicans are the way you think they are just proves my point that the media has skewed your way of thinking to match the way they want you to think, just like Obama is indoctrinating our children. LOL (that's what Conservatives are believing).

Whether or not either one of us is right or wrong is irrelevant to the media, as long as the media makes money selling the story.

The sad fact of the media is that the likelihood of a lie being believed goes up the longer the lie is told and the likelihood of the truth ever coming out does down.

And I thought this was going to be a question regarding Reagan's Moral Majority Republicans vs Goldwater Republicans.

Democrats have done their share of bashing, especially when Bush was in office. You haven't much room for the high ground approach when it comes to conduct.

But rather than discuss what 'happened' to Republicans, what you should be wondering is what will happen to the Republican Party. I predict that you will see a move away from a Party dominated by religious beliefs and back to traditional Republican values, such as small government, low taxes, and deregulation.

  • I am a Ron Paul/Reagan conservative for the most part and here's my take on it:

    * The Neoconservative ideology infiltrated the republican party with its leftist interventionist foreign policy and policing the world mentality. The Neoconservative agenda is great for the war profiteers who require endless war to maximize their profits: http://www.militaryindustrialcomplex.com/contracts...

There is nothing Republican or small government about the current war economy. This is what the Soviets did, which is where Neoconservative thought came from; a disgruntled Russian name Irving Kristol who was NOT for small government. Even Cheney called Bush a 'big government Republican.' That pretty much sums it up!

    * Corporatism has taken over our government left and right. They put the whores they know will service THEIR needs before OURS into places of power because of our corrupted campaign finance laws. Corporatism is Fascism so in effect they have performed a slow coup of our government right under our nose.

There is no way for the people to stop what's happening. Corporatism rules America now! We have lost our country!.

I'm sorry for saying this, but the Democrats can be just as bad if not worse. Who in the elections where the ones insulting Republicans and their leaders. I do agree that the republican party is not what it use to be for me. But i ask what's happened to politics, not just the party. Aren't our leaders suppose to be elected for their qualifications?

It is a viscous circle, each party simply escalates the situation to an even worse state than before.

I am a republican and I support abortion rights because it is a medical procedure between a woman and her doctor. I look at gay marriage the same way if you can find a priest to sanction a marriage between two men or two women more power to you. I am not a big fan of the US government even discussing this as an issue. The US government should stay out of our lives.

I really don't see what you're talking about. Having a far-left, progressive liberal in the White House is going to make conservative statements and arguments seem extreme, but that's only because we're fighting against extreme positions to begin with.

  • They all left the party when it was hijacked by the new Republican cult. The only ones left are the zombies who have been brainwashed into hating America.

Plain and simple, the Republican party became infected with liberals.

    Real Republicans don't come here.

They are too timid to speak up, only to be shouted down by the radical fringe that have claimed the party.

I know what you mean! The republican party has become nothing more than another dem party.

Conservatives are taking charge now and hopefully things will get back on track
