Why so many empty seats at Premiership games?

What's going on! Having scanned the stadiums at the Premiership games, I'm struck by the number of empty seats....and the number of potential visiting supporters who couldn't get a ticket via their clubs but could have seen the game. Anybody else suitably aggrieved?

a lot of people are stuck for cash in the current economic climate and clubs have not reflected this in their ticket prices. the bigger clubs will always sell their tickets but clubs like bolton, blackburn etc need more concessions for kids or the unemployed.

The empty seats are probably because people are rapidly getting fed up of putting their hard earned money into the pockets of obscenely overpaid players.

If you're an away supporter the problem is even worse, as the cost of travelling these days is far from cheap.

I stopped going to matches a couple of years ago because of the cost and I'm surprised there aren't more folk doing the same !

I agree with most of the answers given previously. Another reason could be the bigger clubs building massive stadiums which means the smaller clubs can't compete with them as fans can get tickets for a big club who wins most of the time instead of a not so successful smaller club.

I haven't noticed this quite well, but I think that the main reason is that those tickets are ridiculously priced. You may get to see Lampard, Rooney etc. but it's still 20 yards away. If you ask me it's not really worth it to watch the matches live. I prefer to watch it on my flatscreen with a box of pizza and a bag of crisps.

Well, the recession is far from over, so that's the main reason, I'd say.

But too many fans are complaining about their teams playing boring football, so not bothering to show up, even at Europa League ties. Crazy.

i cant say that it bothers me too much. i live on the other side of the planet. i couldn't go see a game if someone gave me the ticket for free.

although i do feel bad when local sports teams over here have low attendance. if people dont watch the team suffers and eventually folds
