You could use WordPad which is built into your computer, but you'll probably want something like OpenOffice( http://www.openoffice.org/ ). It is almost as good as word and has a lot of features!

You should try SSuite Office for a free office suite. They have a whole range of office suites that are free for download. They all contain great word processors that will do just fine for you.
Their software also don't need to run on Java or .NET, like so many open source office suites, so it makes their software very small and efficient.

OpenOffice or NeoOffice. Both are free and easy to use. Just type the names into a search engine and the sites should be obvious.

OpenOffice Suite. It has everything comparable to Microsoft Office and it's totally free because it's Open Source.
