Commercial/institutional cooking supply.
Or make your own syrup.
Simmer a quart of water.
Add one cup sugar
Let it stand and cool to check the thickness. You may want to loosen or thicken by your preference.
You CAN re-heat it (gently) if you need to adjust the mix. A little cornstarch can help as a thickening agent also, but it will make the syrup a little cloudy, which may work for you since you're going to add colorant.
