Soviet military history?
anyone have an idea of the 'definitive' book(s) of the war in Russia from 1941-1945 after the German invasion?
A months ago I spotted a book online written by a russian author born around 1911 and it was called then, the 'definitive history' of the russian/soviet military in world war two and was about a 1000 pages plus, but as usual, Mr Knucklehead here forgot to write down both the title and author and I've been searching for it since...any ideas, suggestions?
Thanks!

i would be careful if buying a book about the war from a russian author.
especially one who probably wrote it in the soviet era.
he would have been working under very strict censorship and as such the book would be full of praise for the Soviets and stalin and would gloss over the many disasters and mistakes the russians suffered as such it would be little better than a propaganda piece of writing.
if you want a really good un-bias book on the eastern front, then their are many to choose from
'Operation Barbarossa' by Alan Clark, is a good place to start, it covers the eastern front from the planning as far back as the 1930's to the last days of berlin, it is a big book it is old now having been written in the 1970's but most current books on the eastern front still cite it as valuable reference tool in their own work.

Sorry but "definitive 1000-page history by a Russian author about world war 2" describes about 1000 books. It's one of their favorite subjects to publish giant tomes about.
If the dude was born in 1911, you might find it by searching through the years from 1950 to 1970, the most likely years of publication, unless the author still liked to write giant books in old age.
Just in case, here's a Russian online bookstore's world war 2 section.
I guess you don't have rubles, but you can still find the title and author.
