He stays unless he gets chaptered out for a reason other than RCP.
Mike S - the question wasn't about his reenlistment eligibility, it was about being RCP'ed out. He will not get separated for RCP due to reduction in rank alone. He will still be able to prove himself and go back to the board. If he gets his promotable status back, he will return to normal reenlistment eligibility with the reduction in rank having absolutely no hinderance on him continuing his career.
Source(s): Reference: AR 670-1, Para 3-8g(2) "Except for Soldiers serving indefinite reenlistments, Soldiers who reach their RCP during their current enlistment agreement, either through length of service, reduction in rank, or by removal from a promotion list, whether voluntary or involuntary, may serve until contracted Expiration Term of Service (ETS), unless they are separated earlier under applicable administrative, physical disability, or UCMJ separation provisions." - Mike SLv 71 decade ago
He won't be allowed to reenlist both for exceeding the retention in grade and the demotion from Sergeant. He will probably be flagged for reenlistment. Good luck to nyou

Chances are he won't be able to re-enlist or will be admin separated.
Unless he can somehow win an appeal to his NJP and be re-instated...but that is very rare.
