What is Fort Sill Like?

My hubby is trying to re-enlist for a location... they wouldnt give us out original choice but did give us the option of Ft sill at a training unit.

My question, Ft Sill as crappy as it seem? I have not heard too many good thing about it... what about housing on post? is that decent? Any one been station there, any and all information would help!

thanks!

Update:

We are currently at Ft Hood.

My husband is with TRADOC here and I love it, he doesnt go to the field and wont deploy, his hours at work can be long though some days. We have been stationed all over the world and we got here in May 2008. In January 2009 we bought our first home here. Everyone has their own opinions on every post (We like it here), a place is what a person makes of it. I know several people that came from hood and love it here. Housing is next to impossible to get, there is a 3 year wait list. Everyone will tell you not to live in Lawton, which is partially true. I wouldn't live on the west side of town if someone gave us a house for free. We live on the East side which is totally opposite of the west side...the west side has all the stores and everything and much much more homes. The east side has 1 small grocery store and that's all, it is more country setting and not like the town setting on the west side. Our house sits on one acre of ground and we live in a terrific neighborhood. Oklahoma City is a little more than an hour north of us, Wichita Falls Texas is an hour south of us. Dallas is over 3 hours from here so I wouldn't consider that a short drive. If you have any more questions you can email me at

EDIT: Yeah there are scorpions and tarantulas here, but there are also rattlesnakes, brown recluse, black widow spiders and other things...the only thing I have ever seen in a house was the scorpions. As for the weather I have been here over a year and have never seen it be 88 then snowing, then flooding and then a tornado... we had an ice storm in February but it was no where near 88 the day before. And it doesnt snow in the summer, fall, spring..we are lucky if we see anything at all lol

It the U. S. military's field Artillery college and homes a lot of III Corps Artillery. that's often an excellent placed up and has gained honors. the city exterior, Lawton, is massive adequate to have what you like, yet no longer each thing you may want. Oklahoma city is approximately an hour away. ft. Sill is somewhat noisy considering Artillery is in many situations firing someplace. the vast majority of the land is genuinely impact area. Im uncertain what else you decide directly to recognize.

They are doing a lot of work on Sill, know the PX has been renovated and they were selected for a 50-year housing development project.

Here is a link to the web page: http://sill-www.army.mil/

Also, it is a short drive to either OKC or Dallas and they both offer a lot of opportunities to families.

As a native Okie, there is a lot to do here if you choose to get out. The last time I was on post it had changed a lot (for the positive).

If he is in a training unit, his duty will probably be pretty sweet with normal hours and not much field time.

    Good luck to your family

My husband was there for a few months for training, and the weather was CRAZY! We stayed in a hotel for a week while moving, and no one tells you about the scorpions and tarantualas. (not kidding) My son loved the prairie dogs and the Wichita Wildlife. Seriously tho, in a week it was 88 degrees one day, snowing the next, flooding 2 days laters, and then tornadic for another day... fun fun!
