16 month old with a 101 fever sneeze and cough and runny nose: cold or flu or allergies?
Last night my daughter was flushed and warm and suddenly had a very very runny nose and a little cough. She slept poorly all night. Today she has had a temp of 101 and has been very sedate and out of it. She is obviously not feeling well. I don't know how to tell if this is just a cold or the flu. So far I have just been suctioning her nose, giving her lots of fluids and waiting to see if her fever bottoms out (it has been slowly rising all day).
What do yall think? Cold or flu or impossible to tell without getting seen by a doctor?
Any other advice of how to keep her comfortable? I am planning some benedryl for tonight and tylenol for tomorrow if her fever gets any higher.

With little people it's hard to tell the difference between cold and flu; they can have a slight fever with each. The 101 degree fever is not too worrying for a toddler.
Since influenza is widespread, do watch her carefully. I suspect that if she is out of it and somewhat sedate, she may have the flu. The care you are giving her now seems sufficient, but if she become limp or non-responsive, has a much higher fever, has convulsions, or won't stop crying, take her to the emergency room as soon as possible.
Most likely, she'll feel better in a few days without seeing the doctor, but if in doubt, pick up the phone and talk to your doctor or the nurse in the doctor's office.

You are definitely on the right track with giving your child medicine, if possible ibuprofen would be a better option, but tylenol is just fine. From what you describe it definitely sounds like your child has a cold since fever, cough, and sneezing is rarely a allergic reaction. Also, you mentioned that it became worse overnight, this suggest she's caught some bug.
Since she is 16 months, I would suggest you take her to your doctor as soon as you can.
To keep her comfortable make sure to give her lots of fluids and cool drinks.

With the little ones it's hard to tell. My best answer is to take your child to the ER. My son was sneezing a week ago, then suddenly early this week he kept a fever then his eyes started to look weak and watery. Then the last straw was last night when he kept vomiting every time I'd try to give him juice, water or medicine and he was becoming more congested. So I rushed him to the ER (this was 3am this morning) and he has the swine flu! He also suffers from asthma so it's very serious. They prescribed and anti-viral medication to try to fight it off,I have a vaporizer with VIC's to assist with decongestant and I alternate Motrin and Tylenol to keep his fever down. I just have to keep praying and believe we'll get through this.

Croupe! Croupe is going around right now. My doctor said to either crack open u'r window a little or actually, dress them up in their winter coats and take him outside for a walk. The cold weather helps. If u have a newer crib (mine has a flat board instead of the string) move it up at one end or use a blanket or pillow under the mattress evenly...it too will help. One twin has croupe right now.
