Health Care Saves $81bn Over 10 years... What about Welfare Spending?

The House and Senate bills contain a half dozen or more new welfare entitlements or expansions to benefits in existing programs.[6] The pretense that these welfare expansions will lapse after two years is a political gimmick designed to hide their true cost from the taxpayer. If these welfare expansions are made permanent--as history indicates they will--the welfare cost of the stimulus will rise another $523 billion over 10 years.[7]

Once the hidden welfare spending in the bill is counted, the total 10-year cost of welfare increases will not be $264 billion but $787 billion. This new spending will amount to around $22,500 for every poor person in the U.S. The cost amounts, on average, to over $10,000 for each family paying income tax in the U.S.

The overall 10-year fiscal burden of the bill (added to the national debt) will not be $814 billion but $1.34 trillion. To this figure must be added the interest on the debt issues to finance this spending deluge.

Wow, that's a net savings of........adding another $950bn to the federal deficit over the next 10 years.

Nice Savings!!

Update:

Not a fan of any welfare program...period. War on Iraq agree with you completely. Speculation, I doubt considering it's all speculation about Medicare and Social Security at this point, right?

And you believe this? Seriously.? Where do you think they aare REALLY going to get this?

Welfare is supposed to stop after two years now...and you are only supposed to get it if you go to vocational school etc. THAT WAS A LIE AND A GIMMICK then and it is STILL NOT ENFORCED and it will be a lie and gimmick for this.

NOTHING the dems have said is the truth. NOTHING BOZO says is the truth.

HE turned this over to congress with no direction except public option and THEY are writing this bill. IT IS WRONG..misguided and not from any kind of leadership except PELOSI!

HE DOES NOTHING...so he doesn't have to get the blame. WHEN DOES HE DO ANYTHING?

I am so sick of the manipulations of these democrats...I cannot wait until 2010....and then they WILL FINALLY UNDERSTAND what we are screaming about.

What about those poor fools who work two jobs etc and don't make that limit! yet the poor will get almost 23,000 dollars a piece spent on them for merely sitting on their butts and screaming GIVE ME GIVE ME GIVE ME!

This is insanity...and still there are not enough votes...but man I give our republican senators props for holding tight and working very hard for us.

The dems...watch out. America is NOT sitting for this. You an BELIEVE THAT!

It always puzzles me that people can get so upset over "welfare", when trillions of our tax dollars have gone and continue to go to corrupt governments and contractors around the world,

Wall St. investment banks and hedge fund managers

and to the for profit health care industry so they can lobby against our best interests and for theirs.

1% of the world's population control 90% of the world's wealth, and you're concerned with the poor getting too much of your hard earned taxes?

Welfare for the rich doesn't bother you?
