I never heard the Obama administration stopped fighting their wars so how come Obama got the peace prize?

I think I would have heard if the Americans stopped killing men, women and children and making weapons. Don't get be wrong, I like Barack Obama, but giving him the Nobel peace prize while they're still killing seems a bit off. Was it bought or coerced or are the Nobel people kept in the dark? Give him the ignoble prize for best puppet show.

Update:

I'm definitely not conservative. I hope the prize will encourage his handlers.

If I promise to start inventing a time machine some time in the future will they give me a science prize?

Update 2:

Staying in the middle east keeps terrorist occupation, by the U.S A.

According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.....

This includes not only what has been accomplished, but what is intended to be accomplished in the future. The Nobel prize is more often awarded to those who raise awareness or try to accomplish peace. Truth is, many of those who have won the prize had not necessarily "accomplished" their goals.

Obama has set out to end torture, close guantanamo bay, to put an end to nuclear weapons, and to bring peace to the middle east. These are all worthy of recognition by the Nobel Committee. We should all open our history books before we start judging this decision, which is similar to past recipients.

Also, the reason we are still in Afghanistan is to attempt to decrease terrorist occupation and to bring peace to the region. I don't agree with us still being there, but we are not there just to kill people. The war is a fight for peace.

Triple thumbs up to BabyBelle! I totally agree.

Personally I do think the prize is a little too early and unfortunately might do his image more harm than good. They should have waited till he's finished his first term at least. He has given people a fresh new hope but a Nobel prize is kind of like jinxing things in my opinion!

People are giving Obama a hard time and it is undeserved in my opinion. It's only been NINE months - give him TIME! He's working towards peace in the Middle East, trying to reform America's crap healthcare system but he has to deal with IDIOTS every step of the way, like those nasty Republicans, who are trying to thwart what he's trying to do.

*Sheesh* People voted for change - they should give him a chance to do it!!

Rome wasn't built in day! President Obama received the award for the openly peaceful stance he has taken across the world and for talking up peace. No one man can stop all wars without the active help & consent of other world leaders. America lost a lot of trust because of what they have done (as has the uk as it happens ...) It will take a while to rebuild that trust.

I don't doubt at all that he wants peace. It's going to take a while for him to achieve this. Dubbya spent years piddling off the world - President Obama has a lot of detritus from the Dubbya years to clear away. Give President Obama and peace a chance!

Even the Burmese government are allowing diplomats in to talk to Aung San Suu Kyi - direct result of America's best President in years xxx

My reply to a friend of mine this morning was "Peace? Where at?" How can you award a Peace prize to anyone when you look at the current state of affairs in Kosovo, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, Darfur, Tibet, Venezuela, Mexico, Honduras, Red China, Timor, and the numerous free fire zones that simply don't come to mind right this instant. Is there a rule that the Peace Prize has to be awarded at all?

Seriously. This has got to be a fking joke.

Obama deserves a peace prize about as much as Bush.

And I notice Bad Elephant is posting the SAME THING in every question on this subject.

I smell some rotten Conservative sour grapes :-(

Since ol dunderhead George couldn't win the Nobel Peace Prize, it must be an "invalid prize" :(that's sarcasm, for Cons who can't figure it out :-)

Wah, we're going home and we're taking our football :-(

Obama has done more in 8 months than ol Georgie did in 8 YEARS (you guys can't see the truth past your huge lying, sniveling noses :-)
