100% cpu usage with any program?
problem:
when I turn on my computer and sign into my account my cpu usage is a 2 percent or so. then if I run a program even one as simple as internet explorer my cpu usage spikes up to 100%, then stays there for a little while then goes to around 60-70%. if I open a new page it spikes back up to 100%. while writing this it's been at 100%.
attempts:
i've been having this issue for a week now and it is really bugging me. I have run virus, registry, and spyware scans. i've also compacted and defragmented my drives.
system:
laptop, inspiron e1405, windows vista home premium 32 bit
reboot:
I would rather not need to reboot my system. but I am willing to most other options.
also my ram usage isn't extremely high.

Go to Task manager and navigte to the processes tab. Sort the listed process based on CPu usage. you can find what is the process that is consuming high CPU.
IF thats an application that you dont need you can remove it from your machine. IF its Internet explorer then we need further troubleshooting.
Download the process explorer tool from sysinternals and run it.
It will display all the process runnign on the machine with their cpu usage.
Right click on the process that has high CPU > Go to properties > go to threads > You will see a file name that is consuming high CPU again.
Find that file in your machine and mostly it should be a non microsoft dll file. Rename it and reboot machine.
Issue shouldbe fixed.
Note : DO not mess with dll files if you arent sure what you are doing. Get a tech's assistance on the same.

There could be many stuff working in the history. flow to start>seek for "msconfig">UAC would desire to popup, click enable>go searching till you hit upon the tab which will say "courses engaged on startup" (i've got no longer carried out this in an prolonged time so I forgot which one, besides the undeniable fact that that is hardship-free to locate)>Uncheck the courses you do no longer elect working. :-)

"Reboot" means just to restart the computer, not to reformat it.

Anyway, it's likely you're infected with a virus. Do you have antivirus?

Only could be one reason: you have a crappy pc. If you want a cpu which will never do that, get a mac.
