Hard question, because the government is the tax payers and because of all the people out of work and the politicians protecting the Very rich. The working people can't keep affording the taxes. Its a vicious circle. Now if some of the Rich Politicians (ie) President, V. Pres. Senators and etc. would take wage cuts and/ or donate 10 to 15% of their income to provide welfare benefits to starving families or medical benefits. That would make sense and make a MAJOR difference. But continuing to take money from people who can't afford to feed families now. I'd say no.

I was going to make a joke about this question but it is NOT funny. People are born into welfare, live on welfare and know no other system. The same people perpetuate the cycle by having babies at 15, drop out of school, another baby by age 17, and no visible means of support, no chance of improvement and doomed to repeat the cycle. My plan we all understand people make mistakes so the government will help with one baby provided the fathers name is submitted so he can pay child support. They government will provide the mother with Norplant for 5 year birth control, and to continue benefits, she must stay in school, maintain a C average, and after high school, go to a trade school or college. After completion of school, she may then become a taxpaying citizen and get off of welfare, and when financially stable, Norplant may be removed.

In my state, welfare is called TANF or temporary assistance for needy families. You can be on it for 5 years out of your entire life, with a few exceptions. If you are a child, you can be on it until you turn 18 with no limit. Once you turn 18, it starts counting towards your 5 years. Generally though, unless you have medical proof that you need to be on it after 18, they will cut you off anyway. Also, in my state, they make people who aren't on welfare for medical reasons go to "training" to apply for jobs.
