Why did we spend millions to kick up moon dust?

Americans have been raped by corporate america, and yet NASA is building sand castles on the moon's surface. What's with this? Water on the moon? Who cares? How about equalizing some of the fiscal imbalance here on earth!

If you think that a NASA mission takes a few weeks to get up and running, you need some educating. Took us 15 years to even reach the moon. And we still have no idea what is in the oceans that are on this planet.

In the defence of the, I do think that if we stopped exploring and dreaming up such stuff, we would fade away just as many many other civilizations have before us, Aztecs, Inca, Maya, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Celtic, Viking and others.

Just because the value of an experiment is not readily apparent to you doesn't mean that there isn't any. An astronomer once noted that stars put out energy over a spectrum that included an infinite number of frequencies, and then wondered why the amount of energy emitted was nevertheless, finite. The answer to that question is why you have a computer, a cell phone and every other digital device and technology that you enjoy.

Actually, we should be on Mars by now. The first moon landing was in 1969. What have they been doing with all of our money and why are we going back to the moon (but not until 2020)? They kill me.

NASA has a tiny budget. Why of all the things the government spends money on you pick something that inspires and symbolizes human progress points to a lack of those things in you (imagination and intelligence). There's no point in further explanation, NASA is not for you. OK?

cus they know there is something on the moon that may possibly be the answer to our energy crisis. there are materials on the moon that are rare on earth yet over abundant on the moon that can create nuclear fusion. and plus, if there is water on the moon, there's fuel and it would make it easier to set up a biosphere for a relay station on the moon to assist with deeper space exploration. also, there's gold, platinum and titanium on the moon.

The idea is to eventually make permanent settlements on the moon. To do this, we need to know where the water is. That was the idea of this mission.

Additionally spending "millions" is barely a drop in the bucket. This mission didn't even cost 100 million. It was CHEAP. If you want to really complain about wastes of money, start with the ones costing hundreds of billions for little to no real gain. There's plenty of examples to choose from and they don't display your anti-scientific ignorance.

NASA has been a drain on America's wallet since it started. We have MORE than enough problems HERE on planet earth to even be thinking - AND WASTING MONEY ON - whether the moon or Mars or Venus or ANY OTHER planet has water or anything else worthy of note on it...!!! So what if the moon was made of gold...? Big deal...! The answers we NEED are NOT OUT THERE!!!

Don't get me started...!!! (Too late for THAT...!)

Water, surrreee. They just wanted to test an experimental missle (an even bigger is scheduled for later) and if anything went wrong, who cares its on the moon.

it rather is definitely an attempt to shop funds. think of this situation. You shuttle to a pair place int he barren area, devoid of gaining knowledge of it first. You load up your van with hundreds of gallons of water, basically to discover that there is a organic spring reservoir there, with hundreds of gallons of water there. Now, think of that the cost to get to that spot interior the barren area, extra beneficial by skill of tiers of cost for each few extra beneficial kilograms of mass you loaded into your van. you will possibly seem incredibly silly not checking to confirm if water already existed at your holiday spot, in the past you wated all that funds delivery something to that holiday spot that replaced into paready conveniently present there.
