If you have chosen not to believe in Jesus...?

...is it because you want to live your life doing your own thing, and not have to submit to someone else's will over your own?

or, are you following the beliefs or unbelief of someone else?

Update:

Interesting that nowhere in my question did I address atheists.

There are many people who believe in Jesus but have CHOSEN not to follow him.

Chaco_Canyon, people do make a choice one way or another as to what they do or don't believe.

I'll give you an answer though I know it will be flooded by many others.

I actually didn't believe jesus died at all or was crucified but God showed me that God is real.

how he showed me I have already typed numerous times on this site and been labeled a nut case.

I would type out why and how but every time I do people tend to erase their question. as if to say they dont want people hearing what I have to say.

Ironic. Because it basically cuts through all the questions asked here.

You have to understand that religion alone is a faith system. The system is to get people who don't believe to believe. In that alone you have to see that it is not what you believe in but that you believe in something. You can believe in your self. You should. The depth of your believe system should be profound. That's why Jesus had to preform miracles. People of done most amazing things, yet, it's only amazing because of the circumstances that they were put in and the amount of what they produced based on the restrictions of those circumstances. Above all your faith system needs to allow you to think that you can and will do anything at any giving time.

Think of the Muslims do they believe in Jesus. You can yes but do they believe in him the way Christians do, no, they don't believe all the miracles he said preformed. To them he is a prophet. Someone who believes they're in touch with GOD and tells everybody about what they experienced.

I will answer your question, one of the reasons is because I couldn't relate to the bible teachings, I didn't like the punishment system, I didn't find it justifiyng many of the questions I had, I also felt extremely depressed and unhappy about my life, all the time worried if this is right or wrong, sinner or not, I couldn't feel what other Christians say about having God inside them, I felt like a stranger inside the Church, and I used to always question everything, why? for what? and I think I prefer to analyse things from a logical point of view, I'm not fond of miracles, unknown, spirits and soul. things that I cannot imagine gives me a headache! I used to spend days wondering how God look like? does he have a big hand? what is the color of his skin? is he really there? many many things, I also like to state that I don't follow any group, maybe I call myself an atheist, because it means I don't believe in any God and don't follow any religion.

I decided to have faith in me, in the way I run my life, to have morals comes from within, to understand before I start preaching, to listen and to try my best not to go away without doing a small thing that I will be remembered with.

After all, if there was a God or not..I will only know after I die, as of now,I'd rather to live this simple life, with harmony, inner faith in me, improving my attitude toward other people, and become a better person because that makes me feel good about myself.

I've chosen to believe things based on evidence, and there's *no* evidence for a historical Jesus.

    Nothing real requires faith.

''Whether Jesus ever actually existed has long been debated. The argument (very well documented) is that there is absolutely no corroborating evidence of his existence in documents other than highly suspect Christian sources." - Riane Eisler, "The Chalice & the Blade," p. 122

"The gospel story is an artificial, non-historical work. It has been fabricated from source materials that can be identified and traced to their incorporation in the gospels. There is not a particle of hard evidence that 'Jesus of Nazareth' ever existed." - Harold Leidner, "The Fabrication of the Christ Myth"

When choosing which religion to believe in, I put all the names of the many holy people and gods on slips of paper, then tossed them into a hat. The piece of paper I picked said "Bumba" http://www.godchecker.com/pantheon/african-mytholo... from Africa who vomited everything into creation. I thought that was a little silly, so I gave up. No one is worthy to choose just one religion and say that it's the only correct one, or that it's any better than another made-up religion. Believing in or being born into a particular religion over another would be quite random and illogical.

No one "chooses" what they believe, you silly person. They simply believe, or they don't. If atheists believed that there was a Jesus that they could either submit their will to or not, then they wouldn't BE atheists. Are you clear on this point. Atheists do not believe there exists any god or gods. Submission of will has nothing to do with it, because as far as atheists are concerned there is no one to submit to. Clear? Finally?

I have never "submitted" to someone else's will over my own. That is not what Jesus taught. I do however, follow the teachings of Jesus and include what he was trying to tell us, together with teachings from other great teachers.

One of the things that Jesus did say was, have compassion, do unto others etc. Are YOU following those teachings? Somehow, your question shows us that you are not. You are judging others because they are not choosing a way of life, that you have chosen. Does that make you right and everybody else wrong?

I have no idea why certain religious people just can't comprehend the fact that their religion is not special, and no one is singling out any particular religion when they are atheist or agnostic. Their either A.) (atheist) DO NOT believe in ANY religion (your deities included). or B.) (agnostic) QUESTION and often doubt highly the existence of god, and believe in NO religion or god(s)/deities. Why is this so difficult for you all to understand? It remains a constant mystery, as it's really all so simple.

Rational thought and common sense prevent me from believing in any god(s) or their alleged children.Your either/or question shows your bias and lack of imagination. Most people don't fit your little pigeon holes.
