in romans 5:10 how did God bring about reconciliation?

In what condition were we when god reconciled us to himself? Having been reconciled, how are we now saved? What, then, is the signifiance of the resurrection?

Wow -- focus on one verse and all those questions?

Expand your thinking beyond a single verse and you'll have your answer.

Seriously, one of the biggest problems that we, as humans have, is that we look for the answer to all of life's questions in a simple form. Douglas Adams gave us that singular response we are looking for: 42.

Now to the crux of your question. "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."

    1. God is a just God. If he were not, then he would not be God.

    2. Crimes (sins) demand payment (justice). If this were not so, then God would not be a just God.

    3. Jesus, through the atonement (see the next verse) provided payment for those crimes, satisfying the need _of_ justice.

    4. Mercy was extended by God by allowing his Son, Jesus, to pay for our crimes.

That is the payment and reconciliation.

The death of Christ also involves a reconciliation. This is the bringing

together of God and man. It is the removing of the enmity in men's heart towards God.[ Colossians1:21-22; Romans 5:10-11 ].

Salvation by Grace: Ephesians 2:8-9. Romans 10:9-10.

Reconciliation with God is not the end of the process, nor does it stand alone. We are reconciled so that we can be saved, so that we can now say come into my heart Lord, and believe and it is done. Before Christ we would have to go through the ceremonial killing of the lamb, but not anymore. We will be saved because Christ is alive.

Jesus Christ is the reconciliation, He bore the cross for our sins, paying a fine price with His blood. The importance of the resurrection is the defeat over death, and is a great sign that shows that the sheep of Christ will also be resurrected, and live forever more. As David pointed out, it is also how we are able to be saved. There is no fear of death.

The resurrection was our reconciliation. We all suck. He loves us anyway. We are not going to stop sucking. We just have grace now.
