Do teenagers become atheist because they think it's cool?

I'm not an atheist, but I've noticed that whenever I ask other teenagers why they don't believe in God, they hardly ever have a good reason for their being an atheist. I'm thinking it's something they just decide to be at random with no thought to as to why.

Update:

Maybe I should have mentioned this before, I'm not a Christian, either. The whole reason I asked this question is because, people usually say, "Because it sounds cool."

confident. Inverted crosses, pentagrams, sign of the beast have become a growing to be type of pervasive in 'pop' custom.it relatively is curious how a society that's so secular is likewise so disturbing to undertake the symbolism of the 'satanic' supernatural. regrettably, maximum have not have been given any concept what any of it ability and fortunately settle for it as component to a 'cool' custom. sarcastically it ability they're accepting an allegiance with the dropping area - yet perchance that's suitable for a society that has lost its way!

Well, not always. Some may have an idea in the back of their minds that God does exist. But there are so many different beliefs. There is so much doctrine in the world. Some of it is real, some of it is false doctrine.

Many times teenagers are pushed away by the strictness of certain doctrines. If all they here about is how they must be perfect or they will go to hell, then they are not gonna listen. Nobody is perfect. You win people to the Lord by showing them love. That is what they are attracted to. Every human being wants to be loved and appreciated. Whether they believe or not.

A good witness will let the person know that God loves them. Jesus came not to condemn, but to save. You cannot win souls by condemning souls. That will fail.

A true Christian will show love. The Bible says God is love, therefore if it shows love, it is of God. A child of God who shows nothing but hatred and condemnation is not a child of God at all.

no i do not believe in god not because i think thats "cool"

    i think religion

    causes war

    is illogical

gives people reason not to think

creates a false sense of reality

gives people excuses to do as they please

I think religion, and the Bible, and all Holy books have good IDEAS there good on PAPER but Human being are not responsible enough to handle those ideas yet while some people are GOOD Christians And GOOD Jews, most people use there religions as an excuse to be higher than other people

when people ask me why I'm an atheist, I am often a little speechless because I don't know where to begin. I don't think it really matters anyways. Most Christian teenagers (and adults, too) are Christians because that is how they are raised and everyone else around them is a Christian. They, too, have no thought as to why. (Not all, of course!)

Maybe some do, I can't speak for others. I know that I, at least, did not become an atheist for this. I became an atheist when I was 16, I think.

Most teenagers are too educated to believe in an invisible boogyman in the sky. It's not just random thought, but rational thought. Try it sometime!

Some of us actually take the time to think and analyze. I mean really. . . why worship a god we don't even have proof even exist? =/

I think it's a comforting lie. . . gives someone to believe in instead of freaking out about what happens after death. . . . although i do believe there is an other side. . . =/

    Teenagers are confusing sometimes.

What other reason does one need besides "I don't believe there is a God"

If I ask you why you decided to be a Christian instead of a Muslim can you give me a good answer besides "the Bible says it's true"?

    Didn't think so.

Maybe they don't have a reason TO believe in a god. Your religion is not necessarily the "default state", you know.

It's often a phase. It can be a passive-agressive way of rebelling, just like many kids go through a hippie phase, or a vegetarian phase, or a lesbian phase. Or that gothic-emo whatever. Some grow out of it, some don't.
