There are two kinds of "wireless" Internet. The original is the kind you see at Starbucks: A cable or DSL connection with a wireless router doing the "wireless" part. The second is true wireless through a cell phone network. I don't know if there are routers for this kind yet. You should be able to use any router, wireless or not, that connects to the modem type (DSL or cable) your ISP uses. Linksys is fine. Hope that helps.

A strict modem provides an Internet feed using the Ethernet protocol. Any gateway router can take this signal and provide the needed router functionality. If the router has a built in wireless access point (commonly called wireless router), you also will have wireless capability.
It makes little difference whether it is a Linksys or other brand.
My preference is to avoid low end home grade routers as they are poorly built, unreliable, and a maintenance nuisance. Linksys, Netgear, Belkin, D Link etc are all the low cost, low end, poor quality devices that I don't use. However, I put in good quality business class networks.

Hello I work for Time Warner. The router you have listed should work fine. I will caution you that they do go bad over time a few years that is. Most time Time Warner locations will install a wireless modem for you though if you request one. That way you just have the one piece. The cool thing about getting a one piece wireless modem from Time Warner is that when it goes bad they will fix or replace it. Also Time warner will not trouble shoot your router. ie you go buy the linksys hook it up and 2 years later you cant get online. Just plug it straight into your computer and you will know if your modem is bad or your router is bad.

Any wifi or wireless router will work fine, including this one. Make sure that each computer that you wish to use each have a "wifi adapter" installed.
This is a G type so make sure your wifi adapters are also G type. Should you choose an N type router, which is a little faster and has better range, then you must have N type wifi adapters on the computers.

yes it has to say cable router it could be both DSL and Cable router just make sure it works with cable I like wireless modems or Gateways what ever the call them they are a modem and router all in one so you don't have to plug in two power cords they are just as easy to set up you will have to notify your internet provider and tell them you don't want to use there modem that you bought you own they may be able to help you set it up otherwise just follow the instructions

Yes, the Linksys Wireless-G would work fine. Usually what matters is not so much the brand, but the wireless technology. 802.11b is 11mb/sec, 802.11g is 54mb/sec, and 802.11n is 237mb/sec. It is best to get a wireless adapter and router of the same technology.
Generally you connect the WAN/Internet port to your cable modem, enable NAT and DHCP on it, set your wireless channel, SSID (network name) and your WEP/WPA security settings (I recommend securing your network). Then, on your computer with a wireless adapter or built in wireless, install its drivers, select the SSID you set, enter your WEP/WPA security key (if you secured your network) and you should be good to go.
