Well of course I'm sure you know that you need a college degree to be an officer, so if it's between enlisted or commissioned I would definitely go comissioned. Much more money, better life, so on. There is a third option though, you can be a warrant officer. Warrant Officers are not required to have college degrees (though many do). They are commissioned just like a 2LT and up would be but are different kind of officer, considered to be experts in their field. Most WO's especially in the Army fly but not all. They are held with the upmost respect by all, both enlisted and other officers, the pay is great, and the quality of life on base can't be beat. As for the branch choice, I prefer the Army over the Marines or Navy 10 to 1. The Army is also the only branch that will guarantee you the job you pick.

In my opinion, I'd say either Navy or Marine Corps. I've been in the Navy for a little over a year and we work very closely with the Marines. Marines are a little more strict that the Navy, depending on your MOS/RATE and the expectations for the PRT is a little more than what is required of the Navy, for example, we run a mile and a half, do push ups and sit ups and the Marines run 3 miles, they do curl- ups and they substitute the push ups for pull ups. My dad is a 1stsgt in the Army and is currently in Afghanistan right now and he advised me to do the same thing-- Choose what suits you best. One word of advise, I would talk to someone BESIDES a recruiter who is in each branch, preferably the LOWEST ranking person because they will tell you the truth about that particular branch, they won't sugar coat anything like how the higher ups will do (they speak so positively because they don't have to work, they have lower ranking persons like myself to work for them) and the recruiters just sees you as one more person to fill their quota for that month. Officers require more qualifications than an enlisted person. You would have to at least have a two year degree and they look at your grades and see if you were/are in good standing with your schooling. They look closely at your records: Driving, police, etc. They look at your credit, too because some officers are required to have top security clearances and with bad credit, bankruptcies, foreclosures, etc, it POORLY reflects on your character. What some people end up doing is going from enlisted to officer, which is a great opportunity to get the best of both worlds. Good luck, fair winds and following seas to what ever decision you decide to make.

P.S. What Josh said is true about being a W-2 and up (warrant officer) but the catch is that it can take YEARS to become one, you have to make your way up to chief (E-7) and submit your packet in order to do that. There isn't a guarantee that you will make warrant officer either. The Army will NOT guarantee you any job that you pick. If you don't have the ASVAB score for it, I can bet my next year's salary that you're not going to get it. MOS is based on what your amplitude test qualifies you to do in whatever service. Hope this helps.

It is a matter of personal opinion, jobs they are willing to offer you, and what your willing to put up with. I am prior Navy and Army. I did 5 years active with the Navy and 3.5 Active with the Army. Personally, I did not like the Army, but that's my opinion. I didn't enjoy the bs that went along with the job. If you enjoy traveling, then the Navy and Marine Corp would be your best bet. If you have 4 years of college, go Officer. Better pay!!!

To answer this question correctly the answer would be no. An enlisted person that has been awarded the Medal of Honor is not bound to saluting officers of any rank or nation. It's actually the other way around. Even the highest ranking officer (admirals and generals) are required to salute a Medal of Honor recipient first and have their salute returned.

well im guessing you have the college under your belt to become an officer? in that case become an officer you will get much better pay and better living quarters, as for the branch i choose army over marines or navy due to a few reasons. i work with a guy currently who is a Lt. Commander in the navy and started out as an E-1 and worked his way all the way up over the last 21 years, and one day i asked him how long he spent on a ship in that time period, 9 1/2 years, thats almost half his career as for me i like the water but i dont love it. I choose against the marines because you dont get to pick your job they pick it for you, you get to be quite the bad*** but i like to know what im going to be doing. So there's the army pick your job, know what you will be doing and tons of options. as for airforce im not good with math and stuff like that so so much for them. haha enjoy w/e you choose! and way to man up and serve

It all depends on what you want to do, the medical field is better in the Army, so is Spec Op and Ranger, there both better than the marines, it all really depends on what you want. But I will say go Officer, they are treated better, have better wages, and don't put up with nearly the same **** as we grunts do.

    Go officer if you can.

As far as picking a branch, you just have to see which one has what you want. Which one has jobs that most interest you, and which lifestyle would you want to live. Good Luck
