Does an HDTV with a digital tuner still require a converter box?

I would like to know before I buy it-a local store ahs one for $150 but if it still needs a converter box I might as well buy an HD radio because it wont need one and it can run on batteries in case of an emergency! Maybe Ive seen one too many previews for 2012!

    No.

Only TVs with no digital tuner require one, and only if they will be using an antenna to pick up air broadcast signals (as opposed to cable or satellite).

A digital tuner will allow your set to receive a digital signal directly, with no need for a converter set top box. Provided your ariel is capable of receiving digital broadcasts, you are all set.

If you use a cable or satellite service for your TV, your signal will be processed by your providers set top box, and as such you will not need a digital tuner.
