If you have an older beta version of Windows 7 you might want to wait until the official public release comes out the end of this month (October 2009) and purchase a copy. Unless Microsoft pushes up the release date.

The reason being is that your copy of Windows 7 is a beta version and will not be supported, nor licensed, and many fixes and updates have been included in that release of Windows 7.

You might want to visit the manufacturer of your computer and see if they offer a free upgrade coupon to Windows 7 since you have Vista already installed.

I have a few copies of Vista 64-bit and they all run fast with little to no complaints.

From memory the Beta only shuts down every 2 hours from next June (2010)

Seems your hardware should take it (I'm guessing about your RAM and HDD)

You can always get a torrent of windows 7 after it comes out. If you don't put a code in, you get 30 days to try it out fully before it locks itself down.

If you like Vista, then you will like 7 as it's faster and cleaner. If you don't play games, save yourself some dosh and go with a linux build of some sort.

the windows 7 release candidate will shut down every two hours starting march 1st and stop working June 1st (i think those dates are right) the beta is timed. From what I have heard online, you cant just install the rc and then revert back unless there is a problem with win7 bootup so unless you intend to update to a full version of win7 when it comes out, don't put it on without giving thought to how much you will need your laptop.

okay listen to me if u install the rc it will shut down every 2 hours after 1 year of trial and yes this windows is awesome and it's better if u install it on ur laptop because it will save you 20 percent of ur battery much faster than vista good looking not that much problems butter 100000000000 time than vista and for ur hardware they won't work always at 20 or 30 percent for nothing

The beta does shot down every 2 hours, the RC does not yet. Wait 11 days and buy the OS.

Beta or RC? I've heard that it's a trial version of windows 7 and will deactivate sometime in November. So unless you have the full version, I wouldn't bother. But if you its a spare computer and you want to see how Windows 7 runs before purchasing it - go for it!

There are no problems really, I have already installed the Beta on my computer. AS SOON AS YOU ARE DONE SETTING UP YOUR INTERNET, CHECK 'WINDOWS UPDATE'!!!!!

If you are using Realtek AC '97, then you will have to download the update from Windows Update, make sure to un-check the updates you don't want.

Source(s): Like I said, already updated to Windows 7 Home Basic.

Insert the disk into your computer, restart and boot from the cd (google "boot from cd" in case you do not comprehend a thank you to try this), then save on with the stairs to place in residing house windows 7 onto the laptop. bypass sixty 4 bit if the computer helps it.
