    perimeter is total of all 4 sides and the equation states length and width are 2x-3(length) and x(width). Since the are 4 side to a rectangle, not 2 we multiply each by 2 to get 4x-6(lengths) and 2x(widths). This gives us the equation:

    2x + 4x - 6 = 54, then combine x's

    6x - 6 = 54, then add 6

    6x = 60, then divide by 6

    x = 10

    now that we have width(x) we can get length(2x-3)

    to get width is 10 and length is 17

    so now add all 4 sides to confirm: 17+17+10+10=54
