Well to start I use Linux(Ubuntu 9.04) and to keep the bad guys away from my server and laptops I have a Linksys router(wrt54g) and another Linksys router(wrt54g with the wireless turned off) that has been flashed with DD-WRT a small linux kernel that turns your home router into something that could be used in a commercial setting... I run the DD-WRT router as a firewall and I have never had a problem with people getting in and never had a problem getting out... If you looking to do something as technical use the firewall on your router and any AV that is heuristic and signature based will do the trick... Also my soon to be wife runs Windows & Ultimate / with Symantec Corp 10 for vista and has had no problems... Hope this helps

I changed to Avast a few months ago, I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

Like the guy above me, I also use Ubuntu Linux.

I have a basic firewall setup, thanks to Firestarter, and ClamAV. My computer is also connect through a router with a build-in firewall.

    No problems thus far.
