Why do cats need deworming?
So I can provide my cat w/ the annual vacinnations, but what is the deworming for?
If we never get him the deworming shots, will his body just have worms? And what happens if he has worms and we don't give him deworming shots?
So all alley cats have worms?

Cats are usualyy born with worms. Gotten from the mothers milk. Most popular are Roundworms. The rob the cat of vital nutrients, causing poor coat condition, emaciation, etc. If not dewormed, he will eventually start vomiting them up, as they multiply in his intestines and stomach. Pretty gross. How would you like it??

Deworming is important, and in comparison to injectible vaccinations, incredibly inexpensive.
Here's the thing. Worms live in the soil, can be tracked in our our boots, can live in raw meat, etc. If a worm does get into anyone's digestive tract, a cat's for example, it tasks up living there. It literally calls the intestines home. They eat away at the intestines and also leech the protein and nutrients from an animal until they essentially die.
Signs of worms are losing weight when keeping a normal diet, having a bloated (really full) stomach, or blood in the stool. This can be a sign that there are a LOT of parasites (worms).
The most common worm is the round worm. They multiply quickly and if you have more than one cat, they can give them to each other.
Okay, for the solution. Deworming prevents these worms OR kills any that may be living in your pet.
It is as important as getting the rest of the vaccinations. However, you don't have to have a vet give it. You can go down to any grocery store, or pet store (I would recommend Pets Mart or something) and buy either liquid or paste form dewormer for no more than $5, that lasts for quite awhile.
You just read the instructions and usually you squirt it in their mouth, make them swallow, and VOILE! Worm free. =) Hope this was some help!
Also: most dewormers are general for many different types of worms (tape, round, etc). If you SEE worms in the stool, then definitely deworm them. BUT, deworming an animal isn't going to hurt it. Granted, if you did it once a week, there could be problems, but deworming it every 6 months is RECOMMENDED. Also, the animal may drool after the dewormer...its a sign that they don't like it, so don't worry! ^_^

Does the cat go outside? If so its very easy to pick up worms in foods, dirt, from other cats and animals etc. A totally indoor cat that doesn't have contact with other animals most likely will never get worms.
If it has worms they can give the cat nutritional deficiencies and and also damage the intestines over time and cause permanent health problems. A large infestation of worms/parasites can kill the cat.
Most alley cats have worms or some other type of parasitic infection. Also eventually a large percentage of indoor/outdoor cats will get them too.

Yes cats need deworming. It shouldn't be done unless you know the cat has worms and want kind. Tape worms are very common and transmitted through fleas. It will look like grains of rice in your cats stool. Other types of intestinal parasites require a fecal flotation test to be done by your veterinarian. Most vets will suggest a stool exam annually and deworming if indicated.
What to worms do? Basically they live off the food your cat eats and can cause emaciation and general poor health.

All cats can get worms, from various sources.
So get the shots done, as well as the deworming which should be a yearly thing.
If you don't give a cat dewormer who has worms, they waste away and get parasitic infestations, and their blood gets sucked out.

worms can kill a cat. they are parasitic worms that take the nutrition from the cat's intestine and it eventually starves to death.

worms will eventually kill your kitty, and yes, most alley cats have worms.
