Does your cat have diabetes? This is for you?

Diabetes is not a death sentence, no life span needs to be lost and you can have your whole cat back if you just put in a bit of effort and be proactive in treatment

This is a disease where you need to be proactive and be the primary caregiver with the vet as a secondary source. I can help you

Here are some tidbits

Doses should never be raised based on fructosamines or a single test. That could be dangerous

Curves at the vets can be off by more the 100 points due to stress and other factors making his dosing advice unreliable at best

Insulin needs can change over time

Are you feeding DM or MD?? You can do oh so much better for cheaper.

Were doses ever raised by more then 1/2 bid? They shouldn't be

Are you giving more then 5 bid of insulin? sigh

Do you home test or know how to? it is the only way to know if it is safe to give insulin and get the info u need to treat this correctly. I can teach you how.

There is nothing in this for me except the pleasure of helping

I have owned and adopted diabetic cats for years and have worked on a diabetes board with 100's of other diabetic cat owners. I have helped many go into remission or be well controlled. No I am not a vet

Best to all of you

Update 2:

I am sorry for your loss and the troubles you are going through

No. My current kitty is 19 1/2 and has pancreatic cancer and is in renal failure. My prior Kitty was developed diabetes when she was 14 and lived for 2 1/2 years with insulin therapy until she went into shock and her conditioned was unmanageable with therapies. She went into a coma and passed in my arms after the vet tried everything. She had blood test every 6 weeks. Her condition hit her hard and she was a rescue so I acquired her at about 2 years of age. She had been abandoned in Southern California. All my babies eat good diets and get lots of exercise and are exposed to a very calm environment. I tell friends my kitty's are all great yogis.

I feed my cats foods with no bi products. Her foods are natural and organic. pet promise is the only dry she will eat. Her wet food is made by hand and comes from free range organic sources. She listens to mantras daily and soft healing music as I am a healer. DM and MD are both garbage. So what would you suggest as a good diet. I feed her based on my back ground in nutrition.

    * I'll research anything. I'm very open to new info. So if i can do better. Lead on.

Thank you Ken for posting this. Sadly, you posted this before, just 2 days after I had put my diabetic cat to sleep. I desperately wish I would have known all of this before, but I am educated now, thank you!I sincerly hope that at least one diabetic cat owner is reached by this.Thank you for all that you do, you are making a difference in the lives of cats and their owners. Keep up the great work. Oh, and have you ever considered posting something like this on craigslist or kijijij?
