The season may be behind us?
But I'm sure St. George fans are still lamenting there early exit from the finals. Dean Young, son of the assistance coach, was chosen to play hooker, while I believe he is a valuable inclusion into the side, he has a lot of passion and is quite a good defender, I don't see how former NSW and Australian hooker, as well as clive churchill medalist and two time Grand Final winner Luke Priddis could be kept at the Shellharbour Sharks. I know he probably wasn't playing his best footy, but can you expect someone to after what they have achieved to be stuck in reserve grade.
So my question is, while Young had a good season, do you think Luke Priddis' direction and class at hooker could have helped the Dragons perform better in the big games?

Priddis played the first few games of the season and by no means played badly at all. He was solid, hi sexperience showed and given time with the new club would have got back to his attacking best.
The one game he combined as hooker with Fien off the bench the Dragons posted their biggest score of the season with 48 against Manly.
Young is named at hooker and begins at hooker but Fien plays the majority of the match at hooker and he scored a try in finals wk1.
Young as you say was solid in defence and passionate but as a hooker did not offer naything in attack.
He is a lock/second row and always has been, Priddis and Fien sharing the hooker roles would've allowed the pressure to be taken off soward and Hornby and given them a world of experience going into the finals.

I have to agree with you on that. Luke Priddis would of created more variety in the Dragons attack if he was only given the chance too. As you stated, Young is a good player but Priddis has the big game experience which the Dragons really needed at the end of the season. Hopefully Wayne Bennett will have the vision to fix this error and get the St George Illawarra Dragons attack firing on all cylinders next season.

Dragons have so many hookers/halves in their squad. Dean Young, Nathan Fien, Luke Priddis and Matt Head all can't be in the 17, so 2 had to miss out. Young, is a great player and Fien was in awesome form. Not to mention Jason Nightingale wasn't playing every week.
I don't think he would have made much a difference.

To be honest Priddis was great in his prime, but he is getting a bit old now, and has a few injury problems. I think the Dragons were probably right to look to the future and give the younger bloke Young a shot. I don't know whether being the son of a coach influenced it or not.
I don't mean to take anything away from Priddis though, the guys a legend.
I really think the Dragons just lost form at the wrong end of the year, probably because they put a lot of pressure on themselves (for a less experienced team) by winning the minor premiership. They'll go good next year, and not winning the premiership does mean that you get to keep more of your players!

Pridis was good, but I think his best days are behind him. I would have gone for Fien. Head is a halfback and that is where I would have played him.
Note that they are St George ILLAWARRA fans. St George as a team ceased in 1998. Also Pridis played with the Shellharbour Dragons not the Sharks. The Sharks play in the Illawarra Carlton League, the Shellharbour Dragons play in the NSW Cup.

Thats exactly what ive been telling ppl all year. whats even worse is there preventing him from reaching the 300club as he only needs a full season to reach it.

Don't think I can improve on your thoughts, completely agree.
Though it may have only delayed the inevitable choke and extra week!
