British state pension paid annually?

Some friends of mine (they are both over 80) receive a payment of Seven Pounds twenty eight pence each, every December from the DWP. The reference shows SP BGC. I'm guessing that SP is state pension, but does anyone have any idea of the BGC part and what is this money payable for. This is the only payment they receive from DWP. Thanks for your help.

Update:

No it's not the Christmas bonus which is ten pounds sterling. I've been through the DWP and Gov.org web sites and can't find anything at all, but thanks anyway

not on your life time or mine however the extra youthful technology will discover they'll would desire to pay into inner maximum pensions as possibly in 30 to 40 years the previous age pention would be fazed out because of the fact of human beings residing longer and the government won't have the money to pay the ever turning out to be older inhabitants.i think of the NHS will proceed looking after human beings from the cradle to the grave as that's probably the flag ships of the united kingdom, unfastened well being provider. In 2012 the pension is to be index linked to the pay rises of the working inhabitants,it wont propose a brilliant upward push interior the pension inspite of the undeniable fact that it is going to help if we are able to get to that date in time.
