is Barak Obama white?
I'm a black person and I was just thinking why we automatically assume bi-racial people to be the other race when they are actually half white. "Obama is a black president", that sounds perfectly fine to a lot of people. "Obama is a white president" shouldn't that sound perfectly fine too? That's basically my question...

As you note, he is biracial - both black and white.
Culturally, "blackness" in this country largely comes down to appearances - if you "look black" then you're considered black even if you have half (or more) white ancestry. While we aren't at the point where we're differentiating among different darknesses of skin tone, there is still a sort of assumption that whiteness is pureness (or blankness, if you prefer) and that anything added to it - African, Asian, Hispanic, etc. - makes you that thing.

Say Obama never ran for President and was not well known. If you were walking down the street and saw him you wouldn't see a bi-racial man. In your mind you would say he was a black man. That's just the way it is in this country at this time.
And, Barack Hussein Obama is his 'legal' name. It is the name his parents named him at birth, it is the name that appears on his birth certificate. Barry was a 'nickname' his grandparents called him, one which he did use until his college years when he went back to his 'legal' name. Soetoro was the name of his step-father, and yes he was registered in Indonesia under the name of Barry Soetoro, but that still was not his legal name.

you're asking a racist question on an identical time as "pretending" to no longer be racist. all of us be attentive to that the component that instruments him different than for the different applicants IS the actuality that he's black to boot as being as sensible or smarter than lots of the others. And all of us be attentive to there's somewhat racist guilt related there, with the desire to make atonement by electing a black candidate that finally appeared smarter than we had estimated this variety of candidate to be. And his acclaim is to a pair quantity per worthwhile him for coming forward as some style of information that something persons have in no way incredibly been racist after all. And even if if I frequently area with the Palestinians, you look to a type of who're making it further and added tricky for any persons to take action. here fact out of your "question" grants away: "whilst will American "democracy" be approximately electing an clever guy or woman who will do the activity superb?" considering which you're pretending that we could desire to be doing the activity superb if we chosen Mr. Obama, why are you besides could tacitly suggesting that considering that he's not white, he would not actual be the clever guy or woman we desire? your guy or woman thinly veiled prejudice has needless to say been uncovered.

it should. but if people went and said "oh vote for obama, he's going to be the 4?th white male president in a row" it sounds better to say that he's black.

He's partially white. The reason it sounds weird to say he's a white President is because he appears black.

Who cares arent you fed up with people playing the race card. He is a great man period end of story. If you were truly black you would think you would be totally bored with this question and say oh God he is a great President period.

he is black because his skin is definately not white. Black does not mean he is fully american, it just means he is black.
But he is african/american BI-Racial
We can call him bi-racial, we can call him american and black
What we cannot really call him is African or White....
but then again he has visited Kenya many times and seen his family there so he is closely in touch with his african roots too
he's a great great man and such an inspiration

if you mix the equal amount of black paint and white paint, it will look pretty dark almost black. it takes more white paint to make it 50 percent grey.
